What country ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure.

Bernie managed to work very little throughout his working years, which is interesting, because white men of his age in the USA had a near zero unemployment rate for those core income earning years.

He does like talking about people who work, though, and has made a decent living in recent years with his talks.

Beats working!

Jefferson was wrong then. There were several countries then existing Including China that hadn't had a rebellion in a century and a half. There are some now.

The last rebellion in England was 1688. Scotland had 1715 and 1745. Wales at Jefferson's time not for centuries. Ireland? A rebellion every few years. They like a good Doonybrook.

Spain? Didn't happen until the 1930s.

It's amazing to me how many people suffer from the illusion that the rigorous public speaking and administrative duties of Obama and Sanders are somehow not a form of challenging work. On Lit, these appear to be folks who spend most of their time behind a keyboard with a constituency of a dozen buddies, as opposed to a major and actual political constituency that requires an enormous amount of work to represent.

:D

The "work" it takes to establish oneself as a lifelong politician is undoubtedly just as tough as cleaning shit out of sewers for a living...

Not really "tough" "work" at all, it just takes a certain type of naturally repulsive creature to enjoy working with his own and everyone else's crap everyday of his life.

Yeah, both jobs you describe can be quite difficult. And yet, I have met people in each of these professions who keep things in perspective and maintain a sense of humor and humanity.

I feel it's grand that you esteem your "sense" of "humor" and "humanity" so highly...

Obviously, someone has to.

Politicians have paid staff for constituent services paid for by the US government. Their actual day today time is spent fundraising. Always. Nice work if you can get it.

the point that you keep missing is that neither Obama nor Sanders ever held a job doing anything productive in their lives before they were elected and became quite wealthy as politicians.

Obama earned money delivering lecture notes that were written by an actual professor. He was sought after by a non-profit because he was the first black editor of the Harvard Law review. He also has the distinction of being the first person of any color named to be editor of the law review after having written nothing for the law review.

Truly, Conager, you and other internet legends are in a much better position to judge daily workloads and lifetime accomplishments than someone who has never held a real job.

The sad thing is Bernie lost. The democratic powers that be didn't didn't want him and worked against him.

A revolution? Probably not. You not can expect the expect the Democratic party to support you at all. The party leadership have chosen their preferred candidate. Hillary.

Now do your part to vote like you should. The other one is way worse than me.

BTW, The republicans do this also.

Maybe we should vote out incumbents just to show we aren't buying this bullshit.

*listened to Bernie*

I am glad that I listened. Very positive message. Good information, too.
