You won't remember this, I'm sure, but when I was just a toddler here at Lit, you were gracious enough to answer some questions for me.

You were kind and considerate and very caring about my concerns. I, in turn, became so totally embarrassed at my lack of nerve, that I went running from our chat.

Your profile was the reason I chose YOU to question. You seemed open and honest - which you were/are.

Hi Richard,

Mine had lots of things in it at one time, but trolls have a way of silencing us.

Its not so important to me to learn more, I just read what they say on the board and leave it at that. Its funny though that you mentioned not being able to determine what sex they are, because I ran into that yesterday in a PM. I responded to a thread by PM (again, trolls) and quickly learned that I answered the topic all backwards because I thought the she was a he.
Could've been worse, I suppose.

I have seen trolls on the boards without worring about PMs or emails ... I have seen hateful flamers on these boards .....

So I say in my head
"self is she a woman? is the AV her?
do we have anything in common"

as usual when I have a mental comittee meeting
I come back with no answers ......

We each need to decide what part of ourselves to expose
I am not suggesting anyone folow me as an example

just shareing what I experence with many profiles

I think it's important to have information in your profile--not necessarily personal or revealing stuff. Just a starting point for other people or someway for them to remember you.
Unless you don't want to be remembered.

Well, I'm sorry to baffle you, and I am indeed a woman, and yes, the av is me. There are several here that have met me that can vouch for that.
I was once very open, had a pic thread, linked others to my web pages of pics and poetry, and completely enjoyed my experience here, but that was abused in a very painful way. I've since learned to not share.

If you really want to ask someone something, or just give them a nod or something, do it on the board first. That way you don't make them uncomfortable. You seem very polite, I don't think you would do it in a manner that is offensive, so go for it.

agreed with that sentiment about trolls.....

on a couple of the other boards i frequent, the posters use posting id's to keep others from seeing their profile. keeps people from messing with them if they post an unpopular opinion. hell, even if they don't. you never know who is browsing the posts.... and might take something written the wrong way......

JMHO/YMMV.

......the posters here, for the most part, are a lot kinder (and more well behaved ;-) than a few other boards i have visited......

& i guess, it's whatever information a person is comfortable with showing/sharing....
again JMHO......

you know there is no field for sex, i guess they think knowing your birthday is more important.

I have updated my profile...because i really never thought anyone read the damn things...looking at it though...still isnt very interesting.

I never share huge amounts of personal information about myself here and what I have shared I've thought about well in advance.

I can't remember what all is on my profile, and I'll be sure to check after this post lol, but I do know that I have mention that I'm legally separated and that I have a child. I do know that I've always had my birthday listed.. and I did take my email addy off. I don't have msgrs. listed either, mostly because I like to choose who I add.. I hate someone just adding me without asking first.. and I'm rarely on them to begin with.

So lemme go take a peek at myself and see what I can add.

It's kind of funny to me when people assume I'm the opposite sex.

I had a profile up for a couple days to humour someone... then I changed it to a joke profile. I got tired of that after a couple days so I blanked it out again. At least you can see my age if you want. Hehe.

I've always had my birthday posted (including year), and just said "male" for my bio (since I too have a "non-gender specific" nickname). As far as avatar, well, it's just that: not me, but a representation of what I feel like, or (in the last year or so) how other see me, and how I'm comfortable. Same with the title, same with the location. Anyone who wants to know where I live could probably find it easily enough by searching my posts, or just asking. I don't put up my IM nick, had what turned out to be an unpleasant experience there, but again, just ask.

Just because the AV is a picture of a female does not make the person a female /......
