During the ice storm, we kept hearing a meowing, but we couldn't find a cat. I thought she was under the house because we kept looking in the garage and not finding anything. Yesterday, my husband got in the garage and looked around and found her. We thought she might belong to a neighbor because she looked very well taken care of, so I went around and asked.
Turns out someone dumped her and another cat out here right before Christmas and a neighbor had been feeding them, but both of them had disappeared in the last few days. She was afraid dogs had gotten them. She told us she would continue to feed them if they showed up, but she wasn't going to take them in, so my husband and I talked about (along with all the "can we keep her, please?" from our kids) and decided to take her in. It's obvious she was a house cat wherever she was last.
We also think she's pregnant, so we will have kitties to give away at some point (may keep one but that's all). Anyway, the kids are over the moon to have their first pet, though they aren't so keen on her trying to jump into bed with them in the middle of the night, lol.
She looks a little ragged in that picture because she'd just had a bath and wasn't fully dry yet.
