Other Story Sites

I like Literotica and think it is the best of the free sites. However, I have looked at some other ones to see if they are of interest. Some that are listed as "excellent" in Jane's Guide are the pits! I really have to question their selections except when they warn you of pop-ups. They're right about that subject!

What I have generally found is that they are pay sites (which I have a small problem with when they are getting their stories for free. Not a BIG problem, just small) or they are a temple built for some author's ego. I.E., they MAY post a submitted story but what they are actually after is an exclusive site for their own writings and want your story to prop up their site until they feel comfortable with their own library.

What about it, old timers? Where have you found to post your (always excellent) works that the audience is appreciative?

Sites change over time. One site in I know of was "Excellent" some time ago and was free. Then it became a pay site and seems to have gone pretty much down the spout.

This would indicate that Jane's Guide may well have been correct at the time of the review but, like everything else, updating takes time and tends to fall behind the times.

Don't worry about it. Lit's the place to be anyway.

But I can't take credit for the suggestion, as Mathgirl was the one who pointed me in that direction. It is a good site, and while it does have a pay section, it's free if you get one of your stories in the Archives. Thier voting system is similar to Lit's save for the fact that they give 1-10 instead of 1-5, and they offer the possibility of feedback just like here. I don't believe the quality is as good,but I also haven't read much there, so don't take my word for it. Besides, Lit's been home for me for some time now, and it's hard to compete with that, y'know?
Give it a look, and throw in a submission.

I think two others have a good reputation, for GENERAL
stories. I use them. If you have particular intersts --
any category on Lit except "Erotic Encounters," which is
Lit's 'etc.' category -- you could probably find more.

ASSTR offers websites to authors (and some collectors).
You upload your own stories, either as text or as HTML --
these go on different sections of your site. As KM
complains, they don't censor. As long as you post your
own stories, or stories for which you have permission,
you can post damn-near anything you want. One author has
tons of photos, and it's supposed to be a story place.

Stories on Line. The webmaster looks at the story before
goes on line, but I don't know what he looks for. His
comments to me have been help on HTML. There is a pay
section, and you can pay to get a higher download-per-day
limit, but you'd have to be a speed-reader to need it.
