Operations Fast & Furious

Look, kb, if you want to get Liberals interested, you have to pursue the Bush angle and show them how he began the cover-up and Obama was just, once again, haplessly continuing Bush policy, not because it wasn't horribly wrong, misguided and probably racist, but because he had no choice...

;) ;)

So, start with Bush did it and calls for impeachment and you'll get some give-a-shit from the Occupy Lit crowd.

:) Shit Happens!

I already posted Operation fast and furious started under Bush.:D

The reality is that people who don't hate Obama don't give two shits about Fast and Furious. It's not worth spending energy over whether it was Bush's idea or Obama's. It's simply not a big deal.

Too bad you weren't killed in it.

Issa to press FBI for "gunwalking" info
October 17, 2011 9:10 AM

The head of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, said he plans to send a letter to the FBI this week to ask about apparent discrepancies in the investigation of a murder related to "Fast and Furious," the government's controversial "gunwalking" case, CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.

U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was gunned down near the U.S.-Mexico border last December, and at least two assault rifles from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Fast and Furious case were found at the scene.

That focused blame on the controversial ATF operation that monitored suspects who trafficked the weapons instead of arresting them and seizing the guns.

Also, a ballistics report turned over to Congress mentions just two rifles, saying it "could not be determined" if one of them fired the bullet that killed Terry.

There's also talk of a third weapon, called an "SKS" rifle, in secret recordings obtained by CBS News. In the following partial transcript of a March 2011 conversation, the lead ATF case agent on Fast and Furious is speaking to a gun dealer who cooperated in selling weapons to suspects.

Gun dealer: "There's three weapons."
ATF agent: "There's three weapons."
Dealer: "I know that."
Agent: "And yes, there's serial numbers for all three."
Dealer: "That is correct."
Agent: "Two of them came from the store."
Dealer: "I understand that."
Agent: "There's an SKS that I don't think came from ... Dallas or Texas or something like that."

The FBI wouldn't comment but has implied in the past that there was no third gun. Issa said he's seeking clarity and that, until key questions are answered, it fuels speculation.

The FBI has kept nearly everything about Terry's murder secret, saying that releasing anything would jeopardize their investigation, now beginning its eleventh month.

Issa Acknowledges Gun Probes 'Similar' -- Not Identical -- to 'Fast and Furious' Under Bush

Rep. Darrell Issa acknowledged Sunday that operations "similar" to the controversial "Fast and Furious" gunrunning probe were conducted under the Bush administration.

But the House Republican spearheading an investigation into the operation under Attorney General Eric Holder's Justice Department claimed the past operations were different in that they were "coordinated with Mexico."

Issa's comments follow fresh reports about gunrunning probes spanning the Bush and Obama administrations.

Amendment to Ban Funds for Fast and Furious-Style Program Gains Democrat's Support

The Senate looks to be moving toward a vote on an amendment by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, to withhold funding for any program like Operation Fast and Furious, and Cornyn has won the support of a key Democratic lawmaker.

During floor debate on Tuesday, Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., jumped on board and praised Cornyn's effort to prevent any more programs like the botched "gun-walking" effort that enabled U.S.-purchased weapons to end up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

It passed! Great. Now we aren't spending money to not stop people from carrying guns over the boarder! That's a net gain of . . .what's that common sense? You say it probably didn't cost anything to do nothing in the first place? You say this is like not funding people not to work? Well at least we as Americans can all agree that if you don't have a job we aren't gonna pay you.

Senate nixes gun-running stings after controversy

The Senate voted Tuesday to effectively block the Justice Department from undertaking gun-smuggling probes like the flawed "Operation Fast and Furious" aimed at breaking up networks running guns to Mexican drug cartels but that lost track of hundreds of the weapons, some of which were used to commit crimes in Mexico and the United States.

The 99-0 vote would block the government from transferring guns to drug cartels unless federal agents "continuously monitor or control" the weapons. The amendment's sponsor, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, called the vote "just the first step towards ensuring that such a foolish operation can never be repeated by our own law enforcement."

Wait we've decided to block funding to Fast and Furious unless we're actually doing what we're claiming to do? Congrats on a new level of stupid congress!

“We Have Notes In His Handwriting”

In a lengthy interview given on CBS’s Face the Nation this past weekend, Congressman Darrell Issa made clear his views on Obama Attorney General Eric Holder - pointing to a coverup at the highest levels of the Justice Department.

For the first time, Congressman Issa revealed some of the specific evidence Congress now holds against Eric Holder’s Justice Department, including handwritten notes that appear to directly contradict the testimony Attorney General Holder gave to Congress on Fast and Furious last spring where he stated under oath that he had just learned of the failed and deadly operation just weeks prior to his testimony – a claim Congressman Issa clearly finds to be false:

His chief of staff had intimate details; "we have notes in his handwriting that shows that the number two and Eric Holder’s right hand had intimate details for long time,” Issa told CBS’ Bob Schieffer. “One of the questions is, why wouldn’t you tell your boss about a program that had gotten so out-of-control that it had all kinds of people scurrying to try to stop it?”

CBS News is now reporting on documents proving Holder was briefed specifically on Fast and Furious as far back as the summer of 2010. Congressman Issa during his Face the Nation interview went on to indicate a coverup was potentially initiated by Holder’s Justice Department at the crime scene of slain U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry – a crime scene where one of the weapons appears to have disappeared from the collected evidence:

""If weapon number one [which] appears to be missing were ballistically matched, we would have an absolute rather than the inconsistency" …when you have tickets labeling the weapons found at the scene that are numbered 2 and 3 and there’s no ticket 1… When agents who were at Brian Terry’s funeral made statements to his mother indicating that there were three weapons, when the two weapons that they have tested don’t conclusively match up, then you look and say, ‘Well, was there a third weapon at the scene? Were there additional people who escaped with weapons?” ""It doesn't seem like the answers are coming,"

When asked whether or not Eric Holder should resign from his position as Attorney General, Issa told Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer, “That’s for the president to decide.”

Indeed
