My partner and I were playing with a dildo today and at one point it was up his ass. Later in the same session, he put it in my pussy without cleaning it beforehand. Look, I KNOW that this is a bad idea - I KNOW that we should have used two different condoms on the dildo or washed it thoroughly in between. However, in the heat of the moment, we made a mistake. My question is, is there anything I can do at this point to help minimize the risk of infection?

Thanks.

Watching your pussy closely for signs of infection and going to the doc immediately if you suspect something's up is about all you can do. Make sure you're honest with the doc about what happened, too (you don't have to give the sordid details, just say you suspect infection from fecal bacteria), since different antibiotics are used, depending on the type of infection.

You may get out of this with a simple lesson learned, or you may not. Only time will tell.

I'd use condoms over washing the dildo in between. For one thing, condoms are much quicker to slip off and change. Another is that you won't have to worry about residual bacteria (which can be a real problem if your toy is made of a porous material, even when you wash it well). Unless it's a silicone, glass or metal dildo that's non-porous and can be sanitized in the dishwasher or via boiling or a bleach solution, I'd suggest devoting this one to anal play only from now on. You could use condoms, too, but don't use this one unsheathed for vaginal play, since it may continue to harbor fecal bacteria in the pores, even after repeated washing.

you should be OK unless you've noticed you're sensitive to infections and then like said before too late. first thing in the morning go get some AZO its over the couner pyridium (stuff that makes ya pee orange) and start beefing up on the cranberry juice and push fluids hard for the next 2 days just to make sure you flush everything out. you should be OK if you start this stuff ASAP at the first twinge of a UTI go gt meds so it doesnt get out of control

Sounds like you've been down this path too wyld.

Having separate toys for separate activities is good advice, but if its not a toy, but a part of someone's body that gets more challenging. lol

With a cock, it's really as simple as using condoms, keeping track of where you are and washing well after. Bacteria doesn't work its way into skin and stay there, like it does with some toy materials (e.g. rubber, softer plastics, jelly, cyberskin/realistic-type stuff). All you have to know is that it can't go in the mouth or pussy after it's been in the ass, unless the contaminated condom is removed or it's scrubbed down well after anal.

My main concern wouldn't be the risk of UTI, since UTI's are relatively easily cured if you catch them early enough; it would be the risk of a vaginal infection, which can be very difficult to get rid of because fecal bacteria is pretty hardy and can resist treatment with antibiotics. I've heard stories of people getting vaginal infections from fecal bacteria and having a hell of a time getting rid of them.

I have friend who is going through nursing school right now. I called her for advice on the best way to kill fecal bacteria after the baby had taken a crap in her tub. She said the only thing that works with 100% accuracy to kill fecal bacteria is an autoclave. Obviously not an option for plastic baby tubs or vaginas, but it does serve to illustrate how tenacious that particular kind of bacteria can be.

To Port 6 - sending good thoughts your way. Hope you dodged the bullet on this one.

Hmm...speaking from experience here *sigh*. It wasn't E. coli (to my surprise), the fecal bacteria, but it was an official case of bacterial vaginosis (Gardnerella vaginalis in this instance).

You should know within two days; pay attention to the scent of any vaginal discharge ("fishy"? "strong"? "not me"?) as well as the color (opaque white? yellow?). There may be tenderness and swelling as well, but get treated soon enough it shouldn't get to a truly inflamed stage.

Follow SweetErika's advice, but also a few other things:

The pH balance and bacteria/yeast equilibrium in your vagina will be off; it will take time to get it back it normal. You may be susceptible to a yeast infection immediately following the antibiotics (eating a serving each day of yogurt with live cultures in it might help; it did me. Er...but try not to eat the yogurt and take the antibiotic at the same time. ;) )

But if you develop yeast, try to go with the minimum treatment to control the yeast, otherwise bacterial vaginosis will be back again and you'll have to start over. :( It can turn into a vicious cycle if you go overboard on either treatment.

Patience, sleep, yogurt, antiobiotics, keep the area dry and clean....no semen deposits during that time (it reacts with Gardnerella and creates a rather foul smell, plus the pH changes don't help).

Trust me, you don't forget where the phallus has been again when 1-2 hours of fun turns into 6+ weeks of irritations....

yeah I've been this route and have the damn -shirt lol I've just said screw it and bought toys and used a sharpie and marked he ones clearly that are for anal use only and if I have a guy in my ass to save the moment and not risk getting infections either of the vag or UTI sort the only thing allowed in there is a toy or a mouth. unless the guy is hard set on going and giving himself a good scrub

Looks like I got lucky this time - no yucky symptoms at all. Huge sigh of relief. Thanks for the advice, all.
