OOC: Loa Blood (needs more characters)

This is a super-hero thread. I'm hoping for original super-heroes only please, no existing comic-book characters. Also, please make characters low-powered street-level crimefighters for now (more Daredevil, less Superman), they will grow in power quickly.

All super-beings got their powers through exposure to the strange substance called Loa Blood (see below). They could have been scientists researching the stuff, truckers, pilots, or smugglers transporting it, military test sujects, junkies, religious fanatics, or regular people who were exposed through an industrial accident.

High-tech heroes, including robots, and non-powered heroes (like Punisher or Batman) are also cool. So are sidekicks, police, reporters, scientists, anyone who might have regular contact with super-heroes.

Still interested? Post a character idea and I'll see if there are enough people to bother starting it up. When giving your character a nationality, make up a nation, giving a few details about it (rich/poor, big/small, north/south, island/mainland).

Here are the nations we know about so far:

Argo: Eastern continent. Largest, most powerful country. Bay City is on the south-west coast, near Dracon Island. Home of the Coda Corporation. Argons have coal-black skin with flecks of gold.

Aralia: Part of the Argon supercontinent. High technology. Many Aralian immigrants to Argo have formed the Killer Bee gang. Aralians have silver hair. (Nikki)

Svetla: Southern continent with a land bridge to Argo. Made up of many small countries, all poor, overpopulated, arrid. Svetlanders have blood-red skin. Weavers are nomadic people who came to Svetla from the northern countries like Sejeala and Aralia. They have pale skin and red hair, and are known for their mysticism.

Phrygia: Western continent, shaped like a maple leaf, made up of many small countries. Most Phrygians have gold skin and black hair.

Locrir: Part of the Phrygian continent. Long known for it's art and culture, Locrir recently came under the control of a warmongering dictator. (Kryna)

Reva: Part of the Phyrygian continent. Allied with Locrir. (Dex)

Petang: Small Phrygian nation, recently taken over by Locrir.

Dracon Island: Off the coast of Argo, monarchic nation doing Loa research for the Argon Coda Corporation. Industrial accident left Dracon uninhabitable, a wasteland of mutant monsters. Most surviving Draconians have emmigrated to Argo. (Damien, Crown Prince)

Amun Island: Ancient belief in many animalistic gods. Loa experiments on humans. (Sugar)

Marrow Island: Small, out of the way island. No one really knows anything about them. Recently taken over by Argo. Marrowen have white hair. (Ghost)

While I'm at it:

The Wheel: Major world religion. Has come into question since the discovery of Loa disproves the Wheel's version of history, humanity and God.

GAIA: The Global Administrative Intelligence Authority. An international agency that tries (with little success) to keep global peace. GAIA operates the Loa digging station in the Antarctic, and distributes Loa Blood to it's member nations for study.

Coda Corporation: Argon-based research and technology company. Responsible for much of the country's Loa research, and for the Dracon Island disaster.

Below is some more background on the setting.

_______________________________

It's the modern day or a very near future. Ideally, I'd like to set this in a parallel world, and have earth-like climate, fauna, politics, culture, etc. but different geography (continent shapes) and countries (different names, but analogous. Maybe mix things up, so dark skins are the authorities in power, or use different racial types altogether). Anyway, the point would be that it's very like our world, with some countries doing a lot better then others, and a history of racial inequality and religious tension, but it's not our world. This way you can have a super-terrorist group without associating them with any real nation, race or religion.

So, assume a world basically like ours. An antarctic research project, jointly funded by a few very wealthy nations, discovers what is unquestionably an ancient alien site deep in the continent's frozen interior. The thing is huge. The aliens were giants, Godzilla size, and they'd built towers that dwarf human skyscrapers, now mostly buried under the ice. What the research team finds are a few of these towers, which were once small parts of impossibly huge spacecraft, and the tombs of a few of the aliens, which they call Loa. The Loa, while all giant, all look very different, and may represent a number if different alien races that were all working together. It seems the Loa came to Earth a very long time ago, terraformedit and seeded it with life. They may even have created the planet and solar system from scratch for their experiment. Basically, the Loa had godlike powers, and could do anything. So, they hung around and guided life in the direction they wanted it to go, to evolve dinosaurs. They also produced some dinosaur-like biological robots, to walk among and observe the dinos. Over the milenia, a few of the Loa died, who knows how, and they were entombed near the laboratory towers on their experimental planet. Then, mysteriously, all of the living Loa left Earth. Maybe funding for their project was pulled. Maybe a crisis elsewhere in the universe demanded their attention. Maybe they were finished. Maybe they were bored. Anyway, before they left, they engineered an event that killed all of the large dinosaurs, presumably so that they would never develop sentience / culture. They allowed the smaller animals to survive, and left their enhanced bio-robot dino-creatures (we can call them dragons, or monsters), behind, to ensure that none of those small animals ever evolved out of hand.

Well, maybe the Ice Age damaged the monsters. They didn't recognize mammals as a threat until too late, and were focusing on wiping out mammoths, sloths and saber-tooth cats when humans developed got organized and started killing the monsters. By the time humans developed metalworking, monsters were already very rare, and by the time they invented gunpowder, monsters were extinct, the stuff of distant legend.

So now people have discovered the original Loa site. They start digging up and experimenting with the Loa technology (including the monster-creation bio-robot technology), and with the Loa bodies themselves. But the first people to dig up a Loa body get a nasty surprise. Exposure to a Loa's body causes super-human mutation, as some of the Loa's incredible powers are absorbed by any organism they touch. The more you are exposed to, the more you mutate, so the ones who first dug up an entire giant corpse were changed into barely human things, with out of control powers.

Later, The UN claims ownership of the Loa site. They use robots and protective gear to extract small pieces of the Loa, and bring them to the wealthiest countries for research. The Loa parts, usually refered to as Loa blood, are incredibly powerful. Even a small tissue sample can be diluted and used by many different labs in developing fuels, medicines, and creating super-beings.

Exposure to Loa blood is dangerous and unpredictable. Often it kills, or transforms the subject into an insane, inhuman superpowered thing. When it does bestow super-powers (Loa gifts) the powers are usually drawn from the subject's subconscious, or are a response to their environment. For example, the first Loa body was dug up by two scientists in the Antarctic. One was thinking about the giant thing he had found in the ice, and was transformed into a huge giant made of ice. One was affraid that the thing she had found would be harmful, contaminated, and she herself became contaminated, rotting the flesh of anyone who even comes near her. So, over time, researchers may be able to produce specific super-powers in subjects by controling the environment, mood, and thoughts of the subject. However, strong subconscious images have a tendency to work themselves into the Loa Gift too. One man who was accidentally exposed to Loa's blood in a transportation leak developed the power to transform at will into his childhood home.

Aside from having great scientific uses, the Loa also have great religious significance. Here is proof that the beings that created our world annd us (albeit unintentionally) really existed. They walked on Earth. Here are their bodies. And on the black market, you can even buy a few cells, kept in a specially sealed vial, of God's body. Of course, everybody wants the stuff, no matter how dangerous and expensive it is. So powerful criminal syndicates hijack scientific shipments, and compete for control of the street sales of Loa blood as religious icons. Certain established religions, of course, see this as blasphemy, and try to destroy the stuff or prevent it's sale. Most of the world, however, is converted to Loa-worship. Many worshipers believe that since the Loa only intended to create the lower forms of life (like insects and reptiles), that these are in fact the highest forms of life. These worshipers strive to think as dinosaurs, and follow the cold-blooded instincts of the base animal mind. While there are some truely enlightened Loa-followers, who focus on the purity and simplicity of reptile thought, this kind of thinking mostly produces waves of slothful apathy and brutal rage, especially among poor illitterate peoples whose societies are denied the scientific benefits of the Loa discoveries.

See, the UN-owned technology and Loa blood is all shipped from Antarctica to a few wealthy nations, the ones with the facilites to use it for research. Those nations get all the benefits of super-fuels, medicies, weapons, and super heros. The rest of the world has to wait for the trickle down, and the black market.Argo

You've got great attention to detail, I think this is a kick ass game idea. This would be a great background for a Champions game hehe.

Kick ass story line man I would love to play in it, as a matter of fact let me be the first (hopefully) to give you a new Character for it.

Name: Damien Dufray.
Age: 21
Race: Draconian(Light Dark Skin)
Homeland: Dracon Island.
A small Island off the cost of the largest continent (which is sorta shaped like Russia.) Most people here have the most exposure to Loa Blood ( an research mishap, led to the whole island being exposed.)

Powers: He has large metalic wings on his back(like Archangel)
has slight mind powers (telepathly, etc..)

History: Damien was born to the rulling house of Dracon Island, His father allowed the Loa Researchers on the island because the promised wealth to the poor nation, after much research and such, money did start to roll in, but not with out it's price. after just a few short years the research facilty on Dracon Blew up causing a very nasty spill, this explosion sent Loa blood all over the island, those mutating 3/4th of the Island population. Damien was one of those effected....

Happy some people are interested. I like Damien, Democable. Dracon Island is just off the coast of the Argo supercontinent. Argo is one of the world's most powerful nations, and used Dracon Island to stage dangerous Loa blood tests. Since the accident, the island has become a dangerous and unstable place. 3/4 of the population were contaminated, but most of them simply died. Many others turned into insane, rampaging horrors. The UN is now in the process of evacuating the remaining population. The Argo government has denied responsibility for the incident.

I originally designed this setting for Champions, SpectralDragon. Do you have a character idea yet?

You have a great idea here swamp thing, I hope you join the sleeper thread too. Here's my character:

Kryna Ennairy
Female
Age: 24
Height: 5'
Weight: 100 lbs
Race: Locrian
Homeland: Locrir
Locrir is a relatively wealthy nation on the continent of Phrygia (which is shaped vaguely like a maple leaf). It takes up one large peninsula of the continent and has a very long history of being a center of trade, commerce and art.

Powers: Has the power to grow or shrink herself slightly, she can become as small as 4 1/2 ft tall or as large as 6ft at this time. She also has excellent tech skills.

Description: At her "normal" 5 ft she is tall for a Locrian woman, she has the dark gold skin, black hair and light gray eyes typical of her race. She never goes anywhere without her bag of electronic gadgets and thief's tools.

History: When she was 8 her politically active parents moved the family out of Locrir when they saw that a dictatorial regime was rising to power. She spent the rest of her childhood moving around to several different countries, so she is very comfortable in foreign cities. Whe she was 14 her parents died and she and her older brother became thieves and smugglers. She usually did the stealing and her brother, a pilot, did the transporting. She was exposed to Loa Blood when she was nearly caught during a burglary. She had crawled under a desk and was desperately trying to make herself as small as she could when the vial slipped to the floor and broke. It was the first time in her life that she had ever bungled a burglary. She broke contact with her brother fearing that the police were on her trail and she might lead them to him, and also fearing that her exposure to the Loa Blood might in some way cause her to hurt him.

Name: Dexter "Dex" Morrow
Age: 29
Hair: Has faded to gray since exposure to Loa.
Eyes: Have also faded to a bleached gray color.
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 165 lbs.

Home Region: Reva, a small landlocked nation that focuses on research for larger, more wealthy countries. Some of this research is performed secretly, from which Reva greatly benefits from extra compensation.

Background: Dex is a reporter / field operative for the major research company of Reva. His job is to catalog and record things, such as research and development tests. He was assigned to help record events while Loa was tested in a secret lab, during which he became exposed.

Powers: Dex was taking pictures when he was exposed. He later found that he can emit a bright flash of light from his fingertips and his memory has increased to almost photographic quality. Even more exotic is his abilty to place an image of something he thinks about onto a solid object, such as a wall or a piece of paper.

Quirk: Dex's fingertips have turned milky gray from the use of his powers, something that goes to great lengths to hide, though he hasn't gone to the extent of wearing gloves all the itme.

Wow, super happy now! Great characters! And the world is really starting to come together now, too. Reva is somewhere in the center of Phrygia.

Three characters is enough to start with, I'll start the thread tonight.

Okay, it is up, place your characters.

I figure Damien is nearby assisting in the unloading of refugees from Dracon. Kryna is just passing through town, trying to keep a low profile. And Dex is on assignment, keeping a photographic-memory eye on the shipment.

But feel free to insert your characters however you want.

Okay, maybe a little more direction is needed. I'm thinking you're either just starting out as superheroes, or you're not really superheroes yet, just people coming to terms with your powers. After you've all placed yourselves on the scene, a villain will appear to attack the shipment, and you will find yourselves banding together to stop it. What you choose to do after the battle is up to you.

And please, ask any questions about the world in here, and I'll fill you in on whatever your characters should know.

before I post

Do you have a general direction in mind for the action? Kryna can be passing through and watching the loading/unloading of the Loa shipment, she wants another dose to increase her powers.

Sounds good to me. Really, I'd rather just provide a setting and leave your motivations up to you. If you want her to try sneaking past the guards to get at the shipment, that sounds like fun.

nah I changed my mind I think Kryna has had her fill of Loa. But I want her to accidently get another dose so I can give her another power.

Ok that's it for me tonight, I want to wait until one of the other characters is around to go any farther with this

Sorry to hold up the party folks, was out tonight. Reading up on it now, and will post.

Looking great so far! :)

Nice move with the crane, Royal. Sorry if I was steering you too much, but you looked like you needed some help.

no I needed the steering I'm very new to this ORP stuff- but I'm having a blast with it

Stunned, the Killer Bee loses control of his motorcycle. He swerves, and flies head first into the side of the warehouse. The bike keeps going, crashing into a stack of empty oil barrels. The biker in unconscious.

Muahahaha :)

Thanks for doing the play by plays SwampThing, defintely makes things interesting. And moving along, direction is good :)

Do you have room for one more? Here is my char if I can join

Name: Nikki Hall
Age: 25
Hair: Silver
Eyes: Emerald Green
Race: Aralian
INFO: Aralian's are typicaly silver haired and blue eyes but ever since she was exposed to Loa Blood Nikki's eyes have been Green. She has developed the power of telekenesis though she still has trouble controlling it. When she gets extremely upset she tends to blow things up with her mind. She has no control over it. She was exposed to Loa blood by visiting her father who is one of the top scientists in Aralia. Aralia is based on science and technology. There was a chemical spill at the plant and Nikki as usual was somewhere she shouldn't be and was exposed.

Well what do you think?

I like it a lot, Siren, jump right on in. Check the first sentence of your INFO, though. Most Aralian's have blue eyes, but Nikki's turned blue after exposure to Loa's blood?

The Killer Bee gang is largely made up of Aralian immigrants to Argo.

Really glad Dex and Kyyna are working together. Siren, if you want to be the "young girl" Damien saw just as he was sinking, you could save him from the water.

Damien is still floating in the water and wondering if anyone is going to save his ass or is he going to have to do that himself....

PS: If i don't write much it's because I'm not home i'm at work. In the good old US Army

Glad you saved yourself, Damien, hope Siren is still around.

RoyalPurpleVelvet, is this the first time Kryna has ever killed anyone? If so, let's see how it affects her.

Now, do you stick around and talk to the cops and reporters, or do you take off?
