Okay, I've started about two threads here in SRP and not done well, and the one thread I was a part of otherwise that did well (The Faculty) died out too early. If this is too overdone, or just not a good idea, let me know. I'm fairly new to SRp.

The basic concept:
Medieval times, a time when Wizards and warlocks, witches and sorceresses roam, Kings and Queens rules, knight fight fire-breathing dragons to save damsels in distress, and the rule of honor is the way of mankind. Mankind does not exist alone here, but is only one of many species and races that populate this world called Mardin, where the mystic ways of unicorns and elves and the faerie folk carry magic on the wind. Those who live in cities inhabit large castles, cities that rise into the sky, and large fortresses made for beauty as well as utility, and those who choose the more solitary life of nature enjoy it in its truest form.
But an evil grows among them all, taking lives and casting darkness into normally peaceful souls.

That's just the basis, but I thought that the direction could be decided by a group of players instead of just me, giving us each equal free reign over what should happen next.
Anyone interested?
We'll aim for some characters and a more detailed plot, then set up the IC thread.

Ive always had a soft spot for medieval threads... cant stay away from them... unfortunately they usually dont last long. Lets make this one work! :)

Yes, by this i mean I am in ! ;)

Sounds Like Fun

It works for me too! I'd like to be a beautiful sorceress (good or evil) ..... The setting is enchanting.........:rose:

I'm really interested in seeing where this Medieval theme can go. I've got a character I'd really like to use. So, yeah, count me in too!

You can count me in, probably as an elven wizard or a nordic warrior type. Someone who is struggling with their past.

This sounds like fun. Thinking about a disposessed noble type. not much of a fighter but good with a bow and arrow and socializing. Probably bears a grudge against the powers-that-be that forced him in to this life.

Ohhhh. Ahhhhh.

Can I be the hardened mercenary?
You know, the one that's rude and drinks ale all day?

Cool.
The character ideas all look good to me.
Let's get some characters posted, so we know what we're dealing with. For the record, I don't intend to try to control the thread, so long as no one does the "all-powerful, all-knowing" type character. We're all created equal here...deal? More than one character is okay, as I tend to do that very thing, and working out secret plots among one another, storylines through PMs, is encouraged. It helps to build more detailed posts and plot twists, and those are always fun.
Thanx for your interests by the way.

Character one:

Daine
Wizard
Age: 77 yrs.
Height: 6'0
Weight: 170 lbs.

Appearance: His age shows more than he would like to realize. Long gray hair and a long grey beard make him look the stereotypical wizard, an idea enhanced by his plain robes and pointed hat and walking stick. Sharp blue eyes are all that show his own person, and they reveal a well-disciplined intellect and youthful presence.

Having studied magic all his life and been taught by some of the more notable teachers of the craft, he is well-versed in the Old Language as well as the new. He also knows the stories of Olde, the legends that many have forgotten. It is these legends that most drive him, and the lessons they teach as ones he feels the world needs to remember.

What do you guys think?

Maybe post a few real quick and I'll get this things started up tomorrow?

Sebastien
Farmer
Age: 22
Height: 5'6
Weight: 140 lbs.

Appearance: Bastien is a shy, young Elven farmer. He has a very boyish face, slightly obscured by his medium-brown hair but his penetrating green eyes hint at something deeper. He has rosy cheeks, small features and is kind of unassuming in general.

Sebastien is tending the farm in the absence of his bed-ridden father. His mother died in childbirth, which is kind of a hard cross for him to bear. He lives a simple life, putting others before himself but secretly wanting to live out his own dreams, instead of those which have been put upon him.

Naezra
Hedge Witch
Age: 29
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 140lbs

Appearance: Though one can not approve of the nuance of mischief in the faint tilt of her violet eyes, one has to admire her flawless porcelain skin, ovular face, and deeply etched, sensual lips. Her hair is as black as night, making her face appear the color of the moon, and her strange eyes are heavy lashed and hypnotic. She is a sensual appearing creature, as any witch worth the gold she gets for her love potions should be.

She is a hedge witch, living on the outskirts of a large village. Women hate her, and men fear her... this shows in the way that she has come to carry herself. She has grown quite accustomed to both her solitude (not by choice), and at accusations being thrown at her. This has hardened her heart to some degree, that she very nearly might be the evil creature that others claim she is.

Specialty: Love potions, cure-alls, wishes granted. Most of her actual "magic" is either a hoax, or simple chemistry or herbalism. She does, however, on occasion dabble in the dark arts...

Willing to give this thread a go!

Name: Geneva a.k.a. Gene(pronounced genny)
Fae
Age: unknown
Height: a wee lil' bit, but can on occasion change into a human form
Weight: according to above height, a bit on the skinny side.

Geneva is a fun-loving fae, though at times she can be overly mischevious and downright mean. She is a very curious one and unlike most of her hidden brethern, Geneva is often scolded for making herself too visible to the common folk. She has wings that sparkle of multi-coloured gossamer. She also bears the ability to be at one with nature, using it's gifts if various ways.

Tariq Al-Andus (Tariq Ziya)

Hight: 6'1"
weight: 180
Hair: Long Dreadlocks held by a peice of sliver fabric
Age: 18

Tariq was from a noble military family. They produced battle mages and trainers for the Empire. Because Tariq was the child of Masal he was groomed to be the houses diplomat. However, he knew the value of martial training and persuaded Alek, one of his fathers men-at-arms to train him in the Bow and arrow and the Double edged spear.

As a child he would spend many days in the wilderness between cities with his brothers, camping and learning about survival. He does not shy away from physical work. A fact that made other elites in the Empire think of him as just an insignificant boy from a military house. However, Tariq has the makings of a fine diplomat. And in the few games of power that he was able to witness in his breif time in the salons and audiance chambers of the cities, he began to develop a knack for understanding who was in power, who wanted power, and what people needed to stay in power.

Upon returning to his family's castle he saw that it was up in flames. several farms in the area had also been razed to the ground. The inhabitants of the town around the castle were nowhere to be found. Tariq ordered the few men in his entourage to go and seek there families, and to send word to the Precept of Auden if they found any information.

He wheeled his horse around and headded south, hoping to find some clue of the tragedy that has befallen his house. He has decided that it might be best to travel as a wandering man-at-arms and has decided to use the name Tariq Waleed Ziya (translates in to Newborn Star Light) as the Al-Andus name is well known in these parts of creation.

Specialties: Horsemanship, diplomacy, archery, tactics, wilderness survival

Name: Ven Zalapa
Age: 36
Occupation: Mercenary.

Ven is a hardened mercenary, having been in the business for at least twenty years. He stands at 5'10" and has black hair. His hair is cropped close to his head. Standing upright, Ven wears no armor, even into battle. He dress in simple brown breeches and tunic, with a pair of thick leather boots.

Ven is an expert swordsman, and carries a magic sword with him. The sword carries a powerful Null spell imbedded in itself, and nullifies all direct (i.e. A giant fireball. Of course, a boulder could be lifted above him and dropped on him, spears could be magically lauched at him, etc., etc.) magic used against the warrior. His country of origin is unknown, and his accent is not from any known countries. Twenty years ago, at the age of about sixteen, he awoke in a little-used trade route far to the North. These are his earliest memories.

Ven tends to be crass, rude, and arrogant. He's quick to start a fight with anyone, especially women. Ven tends to drink heavilly between battles, and will take up any battle that pays, no matter how little or much, or whatever moral obligations it may hold. His name is well known, and stories abound about his strength, often exaggerating and telling of him being an eigtht foot tall half-giant covered in weapons.

Ven is somewhat of a loner, and a quiet person, choosing to let his blade speak for him. His body has worked up quite a collection of scars, for which he is very proud.

This is a general comment and not directed at anyone. I agree that there are no super characters... most free form roleplaying get wrecked by the invincible ones......

A lot of freeform games insist that you have weaknesses that balance out you strengths this might be an idea to consider. I've tried to do that with my character.

She is a magic user - but still a novice.

She can use telekinesis/levitation as her major gift. But hasn't been able to master any of the big spells of powerful magic users.

She is small in size with no weapons and armor. She is barely dressed (for the S in SRP).

Defensively she has three charms - protection from death magic (i.e. super magic, charming men, and self birth control).

Her status is limited.

My two cents....

Experimental Character Idea

Hi guys, this is my first post on this board and I've got a potentially interesting character who might be fun to include (if the Casting Call is still open).

I'm assuming that this RP will take place in a castle or manorial setting, and also in a milleu with plenty of magic involved. In that case I wouldn't mind playing Malakai, who's a summoned and bound spirit from another plane.

Malakai has been in the area for generations, bound into the domicile, and basically acts the part of guardian, doorman and major domo. He can communicate telepathically, but only with the person who currently holds the key to the castle - most of the time he is reduced to communicating in sign language.

On his own he is not all that powerful, but he controls a lot of the mundane and lowergrade magically powered items around the castle - the basic impression I'm going for is a cross between a large and fearsome guard dog and the butler from an old country manor all in a slightly alien but undeniably handsome male form.

Of course he's not strictly human, which some might find offputting, however those who are more at home with the magical and more inclined to the exotic might find him intruiging, to say the least.

What do you guys think?

The characters look good, up to the last idea. My apologies Steiner, but we haven't chosen an actual setting just yet, and thread like these tend to work better when the characters move alot, travel and adventure to far away lands. That's what I figured we'd do.
Feel free to add more characters if you guys wish, more than one is clearly acceptable. I tend to build the NPCs to an extreme, and often play more than one character per thread. I should also warn you that I seldom post more than once a day. Wasn't sure exactly how fast the threads on SRP move.
Okay, seven solid charactes. Let's get this thing moving...

Thread's up...

Destiny Riders
C-ya there.
I only posted briefly, figured you guys might want to do a few intro. posts.

Ok here's my idea for a character, if still able to join the thread...

Argis Vel'Torin (Argis, son of Torin)
Age : 30
Hgt : 6'0"
Wgt : 225
Hair : White as snow, worn in a poneytail that extends to mid back
Eyes : Crystalline Blue

Argis is of a nomadic race that wander the snowy wastes far to the south (open of course to whether or not the artic areas of this world are actually in the south). He is your basic beserker type, known for his brawn, not intellect. His weapon of choice is a two handed sword that appears to be made of pure crystal, which he had inherrited from his father, Torin. After his father's death(when he was 16), he was brought before the tribal elders and sent away from the village, for reasons unknown to him. He wanders the land with only his white mare, Glemme, and his 'pet', Grense, a semi-tamed grey wolf. From his days of wandering alone, he has also become fairly adept with the sling as well as trapping. These skills do not really assist in battle, merely for eating, although he can fashioned a few traps that have the ability to warn of someone, or thing, approaching his camp.

His loyalties lie with no one truly, but he does tend to side with the underdogs. He, by no means, assures victory to whomever he fights alongside, and wears quite a few reminders of those battles lost, both physically and psychologically.

As for his dress, his clothing is a patchwork of various pelts, intended more for protection from the elements, than the blades of his foes.

On one last note, he has had enough dealings with the 'civilized' world to be able to interact in cities and villages. Heh, don't want him stuck outside the city gates in the wilderness all the time.

Editited for some grammar, though I'm sure there are other mistakes still.

Slave

I'm hoping there's room for a new character here.

Slave
Age : 19
Hgt : 6'3"
Wgt : 201 lbs
Hair : Auburn dreadlocks
Eyes : Burgundy Brown

Perhaps he has some true name forgotten by all but the mother from which he was stolen. He is definately a Dervish, one of a race of nomadic desert people whose culture lies far to the southeast. Considered dangerous savages by most, their culture is astoundingly advanced and deeply rooted in tradition, not that the young man would know anyway.

He was stolen as a young man to be a gift to an Amazon queen, though how he was captures is a mystery. In her realm of exclusively women, he was brought up to be the perfect love Slave. Being called Slave on almost every occasion has given rise to the myth that this is indeed his name, and if he has another, he never mentions it. He somehow escaped from her. His appeal is that of a ferocious animal, knowing that his power can kill makes it that much more of a power trip to use him sexually. Unfortunately for him, his sexual desire always overbears his desire for freedom, perhaps the curse of an Amazon witch.

Slave has skin the color of rust or cinnamon, and long dreadlocks for hair. He is excruciatingly handsome, but in an exotic and rugged way. His build is muscular. Slave is well trained in the dervish arts of unarmed combat. He seems to be savage, and for this reason must ALWAYS be bound. He is able to see, hear, smell, and taste things before most others, perhaps an effect of his race. He is also well schooled in the arts of pleasure, and is quite flexible, strong, and tenacious, like most wandering dervishes. He rarely speaks, and when he does it is usually in the tongue of the Dervish, brash but beautiful. His story is a fight for freedom, for reclamation of identity, and of man's struggle against his own sexual desire.

Just want to point out that my character can not actually grant wishes. All the wishes she has granted in the past, and have come true, were simply coincidence (though you can not convince her otherwise). Most of her "magic" is actually chemistry and herbalism. She is more a chemist than anything else.

But, as I said, she does dabble occasionally in the dark arts. She has a book of ceremonial dark magic which she inherited from her mother, in turn from her mother and so on, but she is always reluctant to use it, fearing the secrets it contains.

Just another little thing I should add about Argis, if he is acceptable...seeing as how he was exiled from his tribe at a fairly young age, he has yet to experience the pleasures of a woman at this time. And, no, hes doesn't 'know' the wolf or the horse either.

Helpful Advice

The reasons alot of 'serious' threads dont make it in SRP is because there isn't a 'sex theme' to the story. This thread would be better in ORP not SRP, but there in lies trouble. There aren't as many writers in ORP to fill a story. Just stick with it and if all else fails Quiet, invite some good writers to come here and write from ORP or those in SRP who write the more 'serious' stuff.

*pokes GM* don't let him get outta line in there with his ale drinking ;)

Sweet p :rose:

Fair Enough...

Quiet_Cool, I'll take your advice on this one and go back to the drawing board - if mobility is a required then I can see that the character is obviously going to be very difficult to make work!

I've got an idea for a landless knight that could work...
