Here's a thread for any hardcore fantasy fans out there... I know I'm one of them. Here's my plan for the plot basics

The races are middle earth based: Elves(different races), dwarves(different clans), Halflings(meadow, and woodland), Dryads, etc. I am also interested in seeing the unique races you might come up, so send them in. Dragons, supernatural creatures, and dark characters/races are all NPCs

A brief history: Over the millenia, the races have built civilizations, and are independent of one another. But a dark wizard named Morgoth plans on conquering the world and starts a 200 year war by wiping out the Fortress of Sildamir (city of the Grey Elves) and all who live there.
Now I have two ideas on what to do for the thread. One story takes place about five thousand years later. The war is over and civilization has been restored. But Morgoth is back and is amassing his forces to start another war. My character is on a quest to stop them.
The other option is to create a thread about the great war. it would be purely improvised as we go along, but it could turn out very interesting.
So, post your resumes and let's make a thread!

Ok, I'm not sure if you put Morgoth's name in on purpose, seeing as he was the first Dark Lord in Tolkien's Middle Earth (Read the Silmarilion if you want to find out). I'm in way too many threads, but I can't give up the chance to pay some homeage to the father of modern fantasy (Seeing as most of your inspiration seems to come from Mr. Tolkien).

I don't know which is better of the two storylines, and I'm not fussed which one you choose. I would love to play an Elf, but I'm not sure which type would fit best into either storyline. A little advice from you would be good.

This is great. Sorry to sound like a groupie, but I've read some of your threads (Lush Forest, Song of the Sword) and I have to say, you are excellent at roleplaying your characters. Your characters' styles and personalities are all different, but you manage to pull it off. Pretty well too, if you ask me.

Anyway, an Elf would be great, as long as I don't have too many requests to play elves. I myself am an elf-lover, so it would be great to have someone who knows how to roleplay alongside. I'd like to see your character's bio, so post it as soon as you come up with a good one.

As for the Morgoth thing, yes, I did that on purpose. I love Tolkein's ideas, and I have read the Silmarillion. However, the world in this thread is not Tolkein's Middle Earth. I took the basic ideas from many different sources, including Sword of Truth, EverQuest, the Belgariad, and some of my own inventions. I can give you a full description of races if you want, and you're welcome to give me any suggestions.

You can also read the beginning to my book, which is based on the Great War and what happens afterward. It is posted as Legacy. post any suggestions on that as well if you wish... I'm open to input.

Anyway, I'm eager to read your bio, and be sure to post ideas/comments on the storyline.

PS - Storyline is in next post

Well, thanks for the compliments. It's good to see someone with good taste. (Just kidding, alright? I'm not THAT egotystical!)
Anyway, I was thinking a bit, and I would like to play EITHER (Depending on the storyline you choose) one of the few survivors from the attack on Sildamir, or one of his descendents. I'm assuming that there were some survivors... if you want it so that there weren't, give me a yell and I'll change this.

Name: Elaniel
Race: Grey Elf
Age: Equivalent to a human 18-20 year old
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1"
Build: Lithe
Weapon: Longbow, Short Sword
Personality: As with most elves, he acts a little aloof to the other races, but he has a kind heart and a gentle touch. However, his soft, quiet exterior hides a calm but deadly warrior underneath.
Background: (I'll post this once you've decided on the story)

How's that? I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, so feel free to offer me any changes I should make. Oh, and my weak point is making up names, so could you tell me if that one is OK? Thanks. Look forward to roleplaying with you.

Here is the basis for the storyline. Of course it will change depending on the input of others, but this is the original plot.
First - The Great War

The year is approximately 60,000 years since the Grey elves began recording history. Throughout the world, races have built massive civilizations. The dwarves live deep in the mountains to the Northwest, in great mining cities dug out of the rock around them. The Grey Elves live to the Southeast, in great stone palaces. The Wood Elves and Dryads, in the great forests in the East.
The world is peaceful. The orcs and gnolls have been driven to the southern wastes, and all races are independent of one another. But of course, that can't last for long.
The dark wizard morgoth, seeing the peaceful life around him, mistakes that peace for venerability. He begins to amass a dark force of monsters in his fortress in the wastes, and soon he has an invincible army.
Fortunately, the Elves of Light forsee his invasion, and warn the other races of his approach. There are numerous battles that take place over the next 150 years or so, and then the Elves meet at the Stonghold of Eldamir to prepare for the final battle. In short, the Elves fight hard, but are defeated, and as a final act of desperation, the High Queen sacrifices herself and everything around her to defeat the invading forces.

The other story would take place about 3000 years after the Great War. The civilizations have been rebuilt (except for the Elves of Light) and a relative peace has returned to the land. We can discuss the direction of this plot, as I'm in need of ideas of a new conflict.

Anyway, that's the basics. Hope to hear from you soon, so we can discuss it... by the way, see if Pmtick or someone else who's experienced wants to join. It would make it even more interesting with a few more races.

you know what... I like the idea of a few survivors from the War. That might be something we can run with. Let's see....
Here we go.

After the war is over, the stronghold is destroyed, along with the dark army, but a very few of both forces have survived the blast. The Krull survivors have run off into the wilderness. However, the Elves of Light have almost all fallen, and the survivors find themselves alone on the battlefield. Other characters can come in later, but this sounds good for now. (remember, tell me if you have any problems/suggestions)

Here's my character's bio:

Name: Daelion
Race: Wood Elf
Age: 143 (22 in human equivalent)
Height: 6'3"
Build: Thin, but defined
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Green
Occupation: Ranger
Weapons: Tapered Longsword (used like a rapier); Longbow
Appearance: Average height for an elf, he has pale skin, and a confident poise. He wears dark green silk, with soft soled boots, a black hooded cloak, and leather archers gloves. His armor is as follows: leather shinguards; mithril bracer on his left arm; woven mithril vest; and a mystical emerald amulet around his neck.
Info: He carries himself with a confident grace, and upon close inspection, is always inspecting his surroundings. He is sensitive, as are most Wood Elves, but underneath, he is a powerful weapon. Possessing the skill known well of elven rangers, he is quick and agile, making him an exceptional close range fighter. Also, his skill with the longbow is almost unsurpassed. However, his weakness is low strength, and he strongly relies on his reflexes and precision to keep him alive. He possesses slight elemental and restorative magiks, and is a determined fighter; but he is a loner and trusts no one but himself.

By the way, the name sounds fine, and the equivalent of 20 is about 130 or so. I'm guessing your character is a Paladin, so he possesses astral magiks (restorative, "buffs" and the like). Tell me what you think in your next post, and give any more information you have.

I wouldn't mind taking up the role of a dwarf, or a human.

Just wondering why Sixty THOUSAND years from when the elves started writing history.

Thats a long time.

Don't have any specific character ideas yet, I'll pause and see how the storyline is developed more.

It's okay if you don't introduce your character at the beginning of the thread. Although I should let you know that if you're waiting for the plot to develop, you might be waiting for a while. We (I) am thinking about maybe playing it by ear, but you never know.

As for the sixty thousand years deal? The High Elves measured time by the century, and they are considered to be the most advanced civilization in the land, so 60000 years is the human equivalent to about 5000 years.

Bump

I'm hoping to get the thread started within the next week or so. That means that we need to get all the details worked out pretty soon, so send me a message, D.W.

Also, anyone is welcome to post input or suggestions on the story.

An OOC Note:

Well, great to hear that this is gonna start soon... I look forward to it. Unfortunately, I've already exceeded my download limit for the month, and I still have 7 days left... so I won't be on for the next week. If you do start during this time, you can control my character if you want, or otherwise I'll wait until I get back on here. Catcha later.

We could do with one more...

We could use another participant before we get started, so if anyone's interested post here, or pm me and we'll talk.

Can I play

Hello,

I'm a newbie and honestly, while I know a good deal about the ideas behind it, I've never read Tolkein. I played D&D for a while, so I have a pretty good idea of how things go.

A Character....

I noticed someone else wanted a dwarf, So, I'll stay away from the Dwarf and go with an elf. A thief I think. A cute little female Elven thief. Lets see...

Name: Tracea
Race: Elf
Age: Unknown even to her
Hieght: 4'9"
Build: Skinny and mostly flat
Hair: Silver
Eyes: Blue
Occupation: None. Habitual thief.
Weapons: Tracea carries a variety of small weapons hidden all over her person. Daggers, knives, throwing stars, darts tipped with a sleeping potion. But does know how to handle a bow if she ever lays her hands on one.
Appearance: Tracea is a light skinned elf with Silver hair and big blue eyes. She wears clothes that are tattered and torn but that were reasonably good when she stole them. Right now, her fondest possession is a purple cape that hangs to knees and her soft leather knee high boots. She wears whatever she comes across, going so far as to scavenge off the dead and those she robs.
Info: Tracea was raised by an Elf who found her one day. This Elf raised her as his own and taught her the ways of being a theif. She has never lived in a proper home, she has spent her entire life roaming from one town to another to avoid being caught by the locals or hiding in woods. The man who raised her died and she has continued this way of life. Tracea is small, thin and light on her feet. She is confident in her abilities, has a short temper and is not a trusting soul.

Sounds fun

I like the idea, and we could use a rogue in the plot. If you have any questions, or more about your character, just pm me and we'll talk about it :)

This sounds pretty good. I'm in if it's ok. I read the Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings set. I have the silmarillion but I never read it. I have the companion if anybody needs a pointer on any thing having to do with Tolkien. This is only my 2nd thread but I'm into Fantasy and I think I can help. I noticed everybody is leaning toward the elvish race so I think I'll take a wizard if thats ok. I'll post a bio soon.

I'm baaaaa-ack!
Can't wait to get this started. SPEAKING OF WHICH, when is it gonna start?

*Uuunnngghh*

Stupid, lousy, no-good, shit-sucking, dirt-eating, POS modem!!
Sorry, but my modem crashed and everything on my pc went to hell. Had to buy a new modem and re-install Windows. But everything is back to normal now, so we can start whenever you want.

(maybe I'll post tonight... really, really busy though, so don't get your hopes up)
