OOC: AD&D based, Starting soon

ElfQuest is a role playing game produced by Chaosium and based on the Comic Series as you mentioned.

I didn't object to you having the mask, I objected to the fact that it wasn't made clear to us all that we could bring magical items into the campaign as 1st level characters and also it's not my call to say if you should or shouldn't have it that's the DM's.

I appreciate that many people don't have access to the AD&D rule set but it is an AD&D thread. I am happy to produce web pages with relevant information regarding the AD&D 1st Edition stuff.

In reality there is not much you can do in a thread based game in terms of actual melee, and stuff but the basic priniciples should still hold.

As I mentioned also, I agree with you, if it is going to be run AD&D style then AD&D rules should apply. If the thread is going to be just another Fantasy Role Play then as long as everyone is aware of the constraints I don't see a problem with that either.

Personally I think it is going to be tough going for players with little or no AD&D experience so it might be a case of dropping the AD&D and just role playing. Just as long as everyone knows.

I did start a thread some weeks ago offering to DM a true AD&D style campaign as I do have a lot of time to actually DM. usually all day on Sat and Sundays and also at least 5-6 hours on or off during the week + I am connected 24/7. and I feel it is the DM's responsibility to post at least as much as the combined input of the players interms of answering questions and plot building. Also the Dm should role play the NPC Characters that removes this abiguity of actions.

The PC should not have to role play the people he interacts with, I question that can be done impartially.

I did get some replies and PM's mostly concerned with the fact that it is AD&D so read from that what you can.

I know I am probably being disruptive, its not my intention to be so I just like to see the game run on a level playing field otherwise people will get fed up and wander off.

First off I have a question.

Snork this is my game right? SO I can run it how I see fit.
I don't care if my players use warhammer characters! As long as I can see a way to make it work in my game.

Yes I agree with Cool that it needs a little more structure, for the facts ...

Everyone is first level, because WE do have several newbies!
Next OOC is only on this board .

I do not want any more OOC on the Main board.

Snork it seem that you are looking for a straight AD&D game. I don't play straight!

If you don't like it then please leave now, don't get me wrong I love all the useful info you have offered, but you seem to think it's real life .. IT'S JUST A GAME...

As far as my plans all the players getting together and meeting was the hardest part.. being all together thing should move easier.

I should hope everyone would be happy but somehow I don't see that... Remember this is a game and It's gonna be harder than a rl game.

I have replied ont he main board OOC to Snorks question about my 'special ability' but I would like to point out here that no-one else seems to have been upset or 'wandering off' just because we aren't sticking to 'the rules'
I would also like to point out that many of the original designers of AD&D and other RPG systems say - rules, for heavens sake people use your imagination, this is about having fun not turning into rule geeks who turn up to every session with a stack of books and who are forever calling time out to check some point.

The way I have always played is to check things out with the GM/DM then if they say its cool, then its cool - afterall its there secnario!
I am sorry but the only thing that woudl make me leave what looks like an interesting thread is if someone keeps preaching to me!
Oh and hey Adraste - I thought your mask was cool and threw up some interesting possibilities.

(rant over)

People a plea - please clean out your PM boxes and check them. I for one will be using them to communicate those little whispered asides that in a real-life campaign I would just lean across the table for.

I was going to leave it at that but hell no why should I.

1) I never laid claim to the thread - read my posts I do accept the DM's decision, it would just be nice to actual know what those are.

2) Rule Geek - I find that VERY offensive. Every game has rules, I agree that they can be modified by the DM but that again needs to be made clear. Yes I know the rules. No I don't need books I KNOW the rules, that comes from experience and the comment is factuous coming from someone that had asked for pointers in the first place.

3) I absolutely understand it's a bulletin board based game - I don't need my Yale education to work that out.

4) Yes I am going to leave the thread not because I wasn't enjoying it but, I throughly resent the insults hurled for simply trying to help, noted and not forgotten.

Okay, I'm gonna jump in here; luckily, I'm wearing a helmet...

Things are getting a little too serious in here. Calm it down some.
Basically, this is what it comes down to. SM thought she was getting into a thread with strict rules, and thought she had an understanding of those rules when she entered. So, her feelings are understandable, if not condonable.
Jeselynn is the DM, so the decision is hers, and running a thread isn't all that easy, especially when there's a lot of detail involved. You can take my word on that one. ANd it gets harder when there are too many rules to follow. It restricts game play by the RPers. Again, take my word.
Personally, I'm Switzerland on this one.
It means nothing to me whether people have magical items or not. But I'm not the only one here, and if SM has a complaint that affects the thread, then it affects us all. We should clarify it here, with as little mud-slinging and name calling as possible...

Ok.. Ok

I never said 'Rule geek' for one.
Secondly I am sorry this seems to of gotten out of control. When I started this I meant it to be a relaxed, almost 'ruleless' game.

For these few reasons.

1) I hate rules.
2) rules make things hard to improvise on
3) I was hoping to go without.

Honestly the only rules I wanted was everyone started out at level 1. Magical items could be explained as passed down by the family. given as a gift from a mentor. Several different ways..

Different skills could of been showed to a player by a traveling hero or monk-like being.

For All I care I could of played a changling and it would of made things better... OH WAIT.. nevermind that will play out later in the game.

BUt I do like Cool's position. and yes i know that you haven't posted ooc on the main board petrel..

SO everyone knows. I plan on keeping this game going if I have to bring All 3 of my characters together at once...

Good luck , enjoy , and i hope to hear from YOU ALL soon!

okay an apology from me too, I wasn't specifically calling snork a rule geek and I am sorry if she was offended by it. I was a bit offended by her posting OOC to tell me off and then Adraste for things we had already cleared with the DM. It would have been nicer for her to have pm'd the DM and asked if this was okay or waited until the DM told us off herself.
I guess I was also miffed because I thought snorks attitude towards rules was a bit offputting for those of us with less experience than her, I know i am not the only one who felt a little outclassed at first.
Please anyone else who I offended take it as read that i have bought a round of drinks for free!

Yes you was. I don't understand why people think its ok to try to 'imply' they meant something else. Since I was the only one quoting rules you couldn't have meant anyone else.

Don't you think these things are best discussed openly rather than clandestinely after all they affect the party, unless ofcourse your character has a hidden agenda.
Agreed you slip messages to the DM if you don't want the other party members involved - generally considered bad form in most RPG's unless the Dm has requested specifically 'what do you want to do next'
I guess I was also miffed because I thought snorks attitude towards rules was a bit offputting for those of us with less experience than her
You see, you were getting at me specifically, (cause and motive)

Please anyone else who I offended take it as read that i have bought a round of drinks for free!
Even excluded from the final round of free drinks but I'm sure there wasn't anyone else who was offended anyway.
Like I said before, Noted and Not Forgotten.

My character has left the thread and you don't need to worry I won't be posting here or in the main thread again either.

Ok, everyone we have all made some mistakes here. I put a special ability into my character than may have not been appropriate for this thread. I only have experience in the role playing thread where I was able to use this character with no problem. If I need to lose that special ability, then thats fine. I think that this thread has some potential, even with us D&D neophytes on here. Now, can't we all just get along and get the main thread back on track???

Ok, where did everyone go? I posted again today , after no one had posted for a few days. I think we need to speed up this thread a little or everyone will start to drift away. This thread has some promise and I would like to see it continue.

Thanks for the welcome

Arciris De Winford born the second son of Duke Dunfrey De Winford and the Lady Allison. Spent his youth amongst the wealthy and powerful families, of the eastern coast. Attending all the best school of war and learning, Arciris excelled in all lessons. At the age of 17 Arciris became betrothed to the lady Catherine. After a two year courtship, they were wed upon her 18th birthday. 6 mouth later they were ecstatic with the news, that they were expecting their first child.
Arciris was now the master of arms for his father estate, overseeing the peace among the serfs. An seeing off bandits and wandering orc band. On one such patrol, he encounter a the outlaw Garius. After a brief and bloody battle the bandits were routed and sent fleeing into the woods. Garius swore revenge and plotted the death of Arciris. Celebrating the birth of his son a huge reception was organised and held upon the river Kilan. The party turned to ruin as Garius returned with a new band of raiders, Riding down the river bank, they struck with out warning. The standing guard was unprepared, outnumbered and Slaughtered to a man. Taking up a fallen sword Arciris fought to protect his wife an child. Finally with an arrow in is thigh and numerous cuts, Arciris took a blow to the head and fell.
Arciris was saved by a passing priest who heeled his wounds. Finally able to stand he stared down at the ruined corpse of his dead son, crushed under a horses hooves. His wife lay beside the baby where she had tried to protect him with her body. Her back was mass of crisscrossed cuts. Arciris Cradled his wife to his chest and wept for last time.
Travelling with the priest for a time he began his search to find Garius.

OOCC {I though my desire to find Garius, could make a good side quest to the main story. Perhaps we may just meet him on the way, and I can have my revenge. Also I thought instead of meeting the party in the tavern, There could be graveyard just outside of town where I could be battling a couple of skeletons. This could be the opening chance to gain a few experience points for the party. I was also wondering how the combat would work in this story/game?
Anyway thanks for letting me join}

Is this actually going to start now?

I sent a pm with my char before...if it'll start, I'll post it here.

New Player(?)

I'd like to join in. Although I would have entered as a Paladin, it seems that there is already one in the group. Let me know. Also what characters are in the group so I can decide on what type to create.

If you scroll back through to the beginning of this thread, you will see pretty much everyones characters posted. Disregard Snork Maidens, she left the thread already.
