Has anyone ever tried one before? I signed up for one the other day because I figured it couldn't hurt and I'm always too busy to actually go out and meet people anyways with work. There's been alot of articles and news talking about the services now then there ever has been and a high sucess rate so I was curious if anyone else ever actually got over the whole embaressment of going in that direction and did it?

I have done it before and met some wonderful fun people. I have also met some pretty wierd ones. I would say overall it was a good experience though.

I've done it, and still do. I'm just warning you- you're going to get a lot of "You're so pretty, why don't you havea boyfriend?" and "You're so gorgeous, why are you on this site looking for a date?"

Haha, thats ok, I have anti-flattering spray in my purse ready for action. I've had a few replies but most of them without a picture and from other states..HELLO, it's a dating service and I'm in Kentucky...can you not make the connection????

I have to admit I was browsing them for awhile then the other day one profile with a picture just drew me in and I went on and signed up/paid for full membership just so I could say hi. I felt like a big spaz but it was like...I couldn't go on without sending a smile to the guy...his eyes took my breath away.

Chatting is free, and you can meet just about anyone that way. Have you thought about those 'A date a minute' type things. I can't remember what they are actually called, but you sign up, fill out a form, they match you and you play musical tables as you have a date for whatever the allotted time is with X amount of people.

Have used them.......very comfortable experience......meeting and chatting first before meeting in person eliminates the clumsiness of "the first date" or the "blind date". You're old friends meeting for the first time.

I recommend it.

Kentucky? Trek on down to Ft Campbell, there will be tons there when they return home. :rose:

The best one I've ever used (and return to whenever I'm single) is Matchmaker (www.matchmaker.com). They have sites for different regions/cities/states and you can do searches by distance or by compatability. I'd say that more than 60% of the people on there have pictures, too.

They also give you 7 days full access for free. I can usually find myself a good 2-3 dates just in the first free week. lol That's actually how I met my current boyfriend! :D

BTW - Whatever happened to your guy? I thought you were seeing someone? Do I have to come out there and kick his ass?? lol

Haha... I did the same thing. He was really cute but dull as hell. However I DID meet a very amazing guy who I am still getting to know better. I'm so head-over-heels for this guy it's pathetic. But he's the type I'd like to keep so I'm being careful with this one.

Overall I'd say it's a good experience though I'd have to agree the main drawback is all the unwanted mail. Not that dating older men is taboo for me, but I really don't like 45 year old men emailing me saying "Just because I'm twice your age doesn't make my cock half as enjoyable."

Hmm using Match.com and Lavalife right now, havent really ventured anywhere else just yet, but I have a full paid membership to Match.com.

Matchmaker is the only one I've tried and it is very nice. Hardly ever get emails from guys outside what I'm searching for. Though I haven't used it in a while... good men in VT are few and far between. *le sigh* Hardly any new, exciting ones signed up so I got bored and haven't checked back.

I agree that Matchmaker is a good one. i've used lavalife as well. I don't care for Match.com.

Don't do too many, stick to one or two. My mom did Match.com and liked it although the one guy she ended up meeting ended up being only friend material.

He was cool and had a harley. :p

A friend of mine placed and ad and he seems to have met some very interesting women.

He dated some but somehow he never got serious with any of them, but it was fun for him and he met some new friends.

So the online personals seem to be a good way to meet some new people .. :)

I found it very convenient as a way to shop for a date.

Being able to specify the right height, weight, hair, cup size, kinks, etc etc is a good thing.

Agreed.

I have a friend who met a guy through one of those services. They're married now. *smile*

For some reason, online date selection never felt scummy to me...I've never used newspaper ads or the tele-dating because they strike me as icky....but online doesn't say "loser" to me the way "newspaper" does....why, I'm not sure.

For some reason personals and dating services makes me feel inferior... there for I've never tried it...

LOL, I can understand that :)I'm still highly nervous about it, but liek I said... I figured it couldn't hurt. It's pretty anon until I decided to change that, I have my picture up, and really will only answer the replies that have a picture and seem pretty decent. But it Is something I tend to be very cautious about, I have enough freaks to deal with in person more or less over the net :p
