When one considers the appalling punctuation which is accepted, this is staggering.

No, not a string of commas.
More like:

"Hi, how's it going.
"I see.
"You did?
"Oh that's nice."

See? Something like that. Except at the end of some lines I missed cutting a quotation. I could see how the whole thing could be annoying/confusing.
A very helpful advisor has advised to just lose the quotation marks.

I'm pretty sure I've done something along those lines once or twice before. Generally if there was a phone conversation going on. Although I made it all one sentence, which may be what made the difference. But...still...
