... I cruise into Chapters Bookstore, (I think It might be Indigo for those of you in the States,) and skim the erotic section for some decent bathtub reading material. The other day on my venture, I couldn't help but notice a great many of the books on display were from a publishing company known as "Blue Moon."

Was just curious if any of you have, or know of other authors who have dealt with them, and what the experiance was like. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sorry, Helene, I haven't had any experience with Blue Moon books, but I WAS interested in more detail about what you refer to as "bathtub reading material." Want to fill some of us guys in on what goes on in there, or will you just let our imagination run wild (as it usually does, anyway?)

damn those duckies! Woody

I monitor several online media news feeds for my job, and today I happened to read a short review of a magazine called "Bust". It's a women's magazine with an irreverent tone, sort of a female-aimed Maxim, I guess.

Anyway, what made me think of that in this thread was this: the magazine has a monthly short erotic fiction feature called "One-handed Reading".

I'll take a leap here, and say "bathtub reading" is probably of the one-handed sort.

Blue Moon is actually quite a respected publisher in the erotica community, but their guidelines are rather loose. They need to like you, in other words ....

Blue Moon books was founded in 1987 by Barney Rosset after he left Grove Press. In 1998 Avalon Publishing Group purchased Blue Moon which became one of their five primary imprints (Carroll & Graf Publishers, Thunder's Mouth Press, Marlowe & Company, Seal Press and Blue Moon Books).

Submission Guidelines:

Apparently there are no particular guidelines for Blue Moon. The imprint is mute on this point, possibly to honor Barney Rosset's legacy; Rosset hates rules. We suggest authors interested in submitting manuscripts to Blue Moon read a few Blue Moon books for an idea of what they like.

One of my publishers, Lizbeth from Pink Flamingo. was originally published by Blue Moon. She said they were amazingly helpful and completely supportive. In fact, after publication of several of her Blue Moon novels she formed her own company.

So yeah. They're legit. Get published by them, it will be a big feather in your cap.

Not Telling! Though it does involve a rubber duck, a loofa, and a vigorous massaging shower head.

I came across that site too, after noting the offical Blue Moon one seems to be down. There doesn't seem to be a lot of other info availible on them in the search engines.

I'm just curious about how much control they allow authors to maintain over their work after they sign up, and what kind of pay etc.
