On one of my threads last night.....

I mentioned that a few years ago, I read in the paper that a teacher was suspended from work for the way she dealt with two boys, who were bulling girls.

She made them dress as girls in front of the girls they bullied.

Many parents, including the mothers of the boys supported the teacher and she was reinstated.

Do you agree with what the teacher did?

No. I think the basic lesson that you shouldn't bully girls got across, but I think this punishment failed to deliver on the whole the message that being a girl does not mean you are a target for humiliation. I believe this will reinforce that the girls should be shunned for the feminity and that the boys may not want to be caught again but will now strive all the more to act macho in compensation.

surely all that would do is make the boys angry (no-one likes being shown up) and more likely to continue to bully the girls as they will blame them for their humiliation?

when mom was little and went to school.. she was chewing gum and a nun caught her. she was made to wear a long paper tongue and her gum was stuck to her nose and was made to go to every school room and stand there.

everyone knew if you wear that tongue that you where being punished.

I know that a teacher would never be allowed to remain in the classroom after doing it now. I was verbally reprimanded for standing a child in a corner who couldn't stand in line to wait for the bathroom. I was told, "We don't humiliate children."
If standing in a corner is humiliating, then dressing up as a girl is beyond humiliation.
