Just checked out an interesting on-line typewriter.

The interface is totally old-skool like Wordstar on DOS, which make you feel like being back in the good old VT-100 days (you can change the colors). But it has the functions you expect from a modern word-processor, including persistent cloud storage. There's a pay-option with more functionality, but the free account seems pretty comprehensive.

So if you get tired of Google Docs and Office 365 and the nosy companies running them or maybe just feel more creative with a DOS like interface, it might be worth giving it a whirl...

Huh? The website is "www.bighugelabs.com" - it's a reasonably well known place for teachers resources, online storage and digital photo tools. I have no idea why your browser would alert you like that.

I do not have MSIE - it's not available for Mac - but I've tried with Chrome, Firefox and Safari, and I get no such certificate warning.

That is old school. I was expecting a message box to say "Would you like to play a game?"

Is this something two people can work on at the same time?

No, I don't think they have anything to compete with Google in that area. As far as I can tell, it's nothing more than an on-line wordprocessor with persistent storage and a deliberately retro interface.

The thing it has over Google is anonymity... at least to some degree. I love Googles services, but I can't shake the feeling that they know way too much about me already...

You're right. Buried in their terms is verbiage alluding to how if you use google docs they now own your intellectual property.

Seeing the green on black type made me thing of "Symphony". The company I worked for had it as a standard back when PC AT was the standard computer. I copied the program off on a couple of 3.5" floppies and used it home for a while. I still have the floppies. Hmmmmmm.

I'm happy with my "Libre Office". but in a retro moment I might see if I can get to the DOS promt - if there is one - on this windows 8 laptop to see if I can load it. Doubtful.
