I do not think heavy metal killed good song, I think computer technology and synthesizers did. Or one could even say the music industry itself did.
“Heart” in 1975 was a rock and roll band. In 1985, they were “okay”, but way too synth pop to be taken seriously.
However, put it in perspective… they sold millions of copies of their 1985 offerings… likely more than their 70’s hits. (which were artistically far better).
So, in all fairness, the world turned to shit, and music has sucked ass ever since.
