Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

The solo in that song was where I fell in love with the Gibson.....just the high end tones
For DB… I found this…

Snowy White And Friends - Slabo Day

Not what this thread is really about, but we are all good with a different tune from time to time, right? And a nice example of a Les Paul.

And that is a Hammond organ there… which I also love… 🥰🥰

When I lived in northern Nevada, I became close friends with a musician who had been making his living there for decades. When I moved to Las Vegas, I no longer had any musical connections and would have to start over. Frankly, at my age, I did not (and do not) have the energy. And besides, the 300+ songs I know how to play are all quite old now. My time, has passed.
Never.

Look at Leon Redbone's career.

Exhibit C?

Greta Van Fleet - Highway Tune

I was so impressed with these kids when I first heard them, and this song is excellent. But when I read an interview with the singer who totally blew off his "singing like Robert Plant" that really make me think he's a piece of crap. Sure can sing though... even if he doesn't give credit to clearly his biggest influence.

If I remember right, the guitar player is his brother, who has no problem saying Jimmy Page was a huge influence.
Absolutely. 100%
And not to just own they sound like a Zeppelin tribute band is a bit weak on their part. Do they think we don’t have ears?

Not for nothing but Aerosmith “ Toys in the Attic” is exhibit D through Z.

It’s all good. It’s a long way to the top,…

WhoPaul? Just A Paul-ing.
I shouldn't bust on RuPaul, I like the tv version and the costumes are stunning
In all honesty, I have never seen the show. I do not even have cable or network tv anymore. I just have seen RuPaul in various things to catch on.

I can't live without cable, its my TV, Phones & Internet all in a package deal.

My electric bill is higher than my cable and the rent on my 2 bedroom townhouse is $1,200 mth, I know... That's not bad, but this is (hole in a wall Ohio) A McDonald's across the street, one side & A mega hospital on the other...

Again, not really what this thread is about.., but Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the “Mama’s and The Papa’s”…. I think she is just precious anyway, but talking to her mom? About California Dreaming??? OMG!

Chynna Phillips Baldwin

I probably should have pointed out the Chynna was the “ Phillips“ in “Wilson Phillips”

That seems appropriate to me… cable damn well should not be more expensive that power for your home!

I need to watch all this talk.....looks really good

Exhibit C (again, to me)

Brooks and Dunn - Boot Scootin’ Boogie
I loved Brooks and Dunn. Have an LP album or more of them in my stack of LPs.
The evolution into country rock was needed to drown out the hard rock that was playing on the radio.
At my age, country and the later country rock was "Old School Musicmanship". The only song I think I've posted on here that isn't is the "heavy metal" Metallica song.

That is an interesting viewpoint.

I do not think heavy metal killed good song, I think computer technology and synthesizers did. Or one could even say the music industry itself did.

“Heart” in 1975 was a rock and roll band. In 1985, they were “okay”, but way too synth pop to be taken seriously.

However, put it in perspective… they sold millions of copies of their 1985 offerings… likely more than their 70’s hits. (which were artistically far better).

So, in all fairness, the world turned to shit, and music has sucked ass ever since.

I think the expansion of video is what truly started music’s dramatic downward slide. Once people got a look at some of these artists, it started to shift. Style began trumping substance. You actually needed to be attractive first and a talented musician came somewhere down the line. But they weren’t really great looking. So they either embraced it like AC/DC (and very few other others) and refused to sell out, or they put on makeup and grabbed the hairspray.

No one needed or really wanted to see what Steve Perry or Van Morrison or Klaus Meine etc etc looked like.
“Lights” by Journey, or “Mainstreet” by Seger. Perfect songs that were always going to be better on the radio or better right from your record player.

ZZ Top was smart enough to cover it up with beards and schtick.

KISS lost fans when they took off the make-up.

🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree with both of you.
I'm definitely no music expert, but there's certain sound I like, especially if it involves love songs, songs with meaningful lyrics (that can be understood !) and/or are fun to watch listener's reactions and make me feel like I want to dance.

That's why the Statler Brothers are so respected by me. They fulfilled every emotion-to-funny bone feeling with such a wide variety of music and lyrics than any group has ever had an effect on me. Some people think I'm crazy for that.
Such a contrast between the Statlers and KISS. LOL KISS never impressed me.

While true, Gene Simmons wasn't the best looking without the KISS makeup, it may be true that they lost fans when they took off the makeup, but according to Wikipedia, they apparently picked up new fans as well, and not having the makup did not take them down

From Wikipedia on KISS:
"...In 1983, Kiss began performing without makeup and costumes, marking the beginning of the band's "unmasked" era that would last until 1996. The band experienced a commercial resurgence during this era, with the 1983 platinum-certified album Lick It Up successfully introducing them to a new generation of fans, and its music videos receiving regular airplay on MTV."

When CCR first came out, I automatically assumed that they had to have originated in the deep south, funny how that works
You must be older than me. CCR first formed when I was in early high school, and where the sound might have come from never entered my mind. LOL

The Ozzie and Harriet kids do the lead in to this history vid....(a 58 min vid)
LOL...I was a blue-eyed blonde and still cute pre-kindergarten kid when this all started...

I assumed that for years!!! Don’t know when I found out they were from CA… but likely in my teenage years.
LOL Maybe it was because of GREEN RIVER? Algae was certainly present in the southern swamps and probably rivers.
But CA could have had green rivers because of pollution. I wonder where the inspiration for Fogerty and Company came from for GREEN RIVER.
