Okay...looking for some encouragement to get me writing again!

It has been a while since I finished a story, and I think I just need to read some feedback from readers to get me writing again. If you have the time, please check out my stories and post a review if you wish.

Thanks for helping me get jump started again!

When you find your encouragement, please let me know.

(Am searching for the same thing myself.)

Make them want to do it, Gunther. The readers don't care about you, they care about feeding their own libidos. Tease them. Provoke them (in a positive way). Answer their question, "What's in it for me?" Give them an incentive to read your stuff. If they do read it and you've asked nicely for feedback (as you've done here), they will give it to you.

Thanks

Well...at least this is something! I was not really looking for people to tell me what I was doing wrong...um...see...that would not be "encouragement." Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get excited about writing again? My stories did improve dramatically as I wrote more -- as I took the effort more seriously. My ratings were pretty good.

Thanks for the replies...and now I know that at least 3 people thought enough to post something. That is encouragement in and of itself.

Feedback - Or Praise?

Which is it that you are seeking? If you hope to receive effusive, ego-stroking praise, you have to be ready to accept the constructive critique, too.

There will always be the "you suck" kind of responses, too, but those don't really count for much. Attacks on the writer, instead of helpful ideas for the writing, never do anythnig useful except make the person venting their spleen feel better about themselves.

As writers, we all desire praise and words that validate our hope that our efforts have been well received, and that they brought pleasure, or value, or both to the reader.

But it is the constructive feedback that is the most valuable. First of all, it is rare and hard to get. It is more valuable than any other kind of feedback because it can help you be a better writer. And lastly, you generated enough interest from that reader for him or her to take the time to want to help you improve your writing. So you've already connected with them and moved them, if even a little bit, and now they want to return the favor to you. That, alone, should be encouraging.

So cherish the constructive advice and use it to make the next story better than the one before it. And then the praise will be more meaningful, and (hopefully) more frequent.
