My MS Word can't find my fonts. Excel, Access and every other damn program that uses them can.

I've tried scanning for viruses, nothing. I've tried removing it, and reinstalling, same problem. I've looked everywhere in the program to see if it forgot what directory they are in, but there doesn't seem to have any options. There has to be something there I'm missing.

I have a bootleg copy of MS Office 97.....so obviously I don't have tech support. Any suggestions?

I don't know why you have that problem just off-hand.

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the complete Office package?

You seem to have jinxed my copy of MS Word 97. I still have access to all of the fonts in C:\Window\FONTS but three of the tabs on my options window have gone blank -- compatibility, Edit, and Track changes.

Symptoms

You may not be able to select TrueType fonts in WordPad or Microsoft Word, even though you can select TrueType fonts in Microsoft Excel, and you can view TrueType fonts in your Fonts folder.

Cause

The default printer is set to a printer that does not support TrueType fonts (such as the Generic/Text Only printer).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
If you already have another printer installed that supports TrueType fonts, use the right mouse button to
click the printer, and then click Set As Default.
If you do not have another printer installed that supports TrueType fonts, double-click Add New Printer to install the driver for your printer. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the printer.

More Information

Microsoft Word and WordPad check the capabilities of the default printer to determine how to display the document as it will be printed. Microsoft Excel does not limit the fonts that can be selected because many customers use Microsoft Excel to view and manipulate spreadsheets without printing.

Good find.

Any idea why my options tabs went blank? (I have defragged since they last worked but no other changes to the system.)

Not much experience with 97, only 2000.I've found if you delete the entire registry key for word, it will rebuild them. This works in word 2000, but I don't know if it will work in 97
