Obviously you have not experienced Oxford traffic.
We go a couple of times a year when we can , once for a family reason, then for any relevant gaudy or similar for G and live within what should be not to bad a distance, but the traffic ....ooooh, the traffic.
I have had several Oxford button-downs.

That's why I leave for work before 5AM. To try to avoid the bulk of it. But as you say, it is still crazy, even then.

At least they utilize bicycles more. I can't pedal 20 miles one-way. And I'm not near the metro.

that's a stereotype I'm afraid: Although there are many bicycles, most are in (late model) cars, taxis, buses, electric motorbikes.

Actually, I think I used them all. At least the ones that I know.
I became desensitized to both 'fuck' and 'cunt' during that drive. Or that could have just been reading Fata every day.

My last town had only one traffic light. Just to meter shift change at the mine versus production side/town/school traffic.
Wasn't another light for 40 miles SW or SE. North, i don't know how far you'd have to go to see another.
Now I sometimes see 8 traffic lights in a mile. I try to avoid those at all costs. Often, Google maps will route me 15 miles extra by freeway to avoid 20 miles of lights.
Some bright spots, though. City of Glendale traffic control is inspired. Well-timed lights, and at night they will turn all the intersections to flashing yellow (proceed through with caution) against flashing red (treat like a stop sign, yield to yellow flashing traffic.) Surprise, before the bubble burst was the fastest growing town in America. To accommodate that growth, they actually built the 6 lane freeway before putting in The hours and retail. miles and miles of it still don't really have houses in retail so that freeway is completely empty you can pass a cop doing 85 miles an hour on that freeway and he won't say a thing. that 303 outer loop is basically our Autobahn.
