Oh Que!

My brother and I emptied out a 5,400 sq ft structure and loaded up about 3/4 of a 26' truck in about 7 hours. Can't believe it all fit. Leaving beds behind helped. Eveeything was boxed up on previous trips. Most of it prestaged in the RV garage. Having an elevator made it easier. Biggest change I would engineer in would be a double sided elevator that goes the whole 3.5 stories. A pain to get furniture down to garage then have to hump it down a narrow, curved, 1/2 flight of stairs.

Handy to be able to back a full-sized truck inside, though.

Now 25-30 hours of driving starting tommorow.

You can now come work with me. Boss man and I are the only ones allowed to put debris in the trailer we haul with because the boys would need two trailers the way they fit things in. At the really nasty clean out last week we ran out of buckets (30 gallon garbage cans) and I suggested we open up the two refrigerators and and the chest freezer and fill them with trash. Every spare space was filled for sure.

This was the kitchen before, and after. The after was not the final phase either, it is only after I scrubbed out the cabinets, washed down all the cabinets and sink and spent over an hour on my hands and knees cleaning the floor. It still needed a final mopping but no mop would ever get the gunk off the floor that I did with a scraper, a green scrubby, some comet, some floor cleaners...it was so gross!

This was the house that I used a scoop shovel to fill buckets and the mice were running away from me.

I don't have a picture of the worst room which was in the back and literally three feet high with debris and garbage.

This is the kitchen after I was nearly done. It needed one more final wash of the floor.

I already miss my job and have only been off for two days!!

So Que, are you traveling alone or is your brother accompanying you?

That sounds stressful and miserable. Sorry that's what you're dealing with right now.

Yes, ma'am. I'm going down to Georgia lookin' for a soul to steal... I mean, to meet a friend. I've known him for over 15 years, and it's a bit ridiculous that we haven't been face-to-face, so I'm making it happen. No real plans while I'm there besides hanging out, but we might decide on something touristy if the mood strikes. It's just for the weekend, so I'm heading back home on Monday.

Hope your trip brings you everything you expect, even the happily unexpected.

No, Querybro has to go back to the slightly more lucrative than mover's helper job of selivering babies. Interestingly, my 43 year old sister just had a child today and the first that my mom knew she was pregnant was when the picture of the healthy mother and child showed up on her phone.

Apparently the family obstetrician was let in on the secret but it was kept a secret from mom for a while for reasons that I'm not quite clear on..

We're going to be driving together mom and I that is going to be an adventure. On the other ind of the journey, we shall press-gang my other two brothers into helping me unloading the truck.

I plan to score my Dads 55 year-old highboy dresser. One of the sister in laws has dibs on Mom's old dresser.

@Jezzi yikes on the description. The connection in here is really spotty so I doubt I can download the pictures.

Thanks! Since I'm not expecting anything other than hanging out with an old friend, I'm pretty sure I'll get at least that. :D

I can't wait to hear how this turns out...take lots of pictures!! Maybe even some you could share!

It is always an adventure when traveling with your mother. I did not sleep at all while mine was driving, I literally had to be a back seat driver. Her mind wanders...and then so does the vehicle. Three times she got off on exit ramps on accident. Instead of going straight on down the road she veered off and only realized her error when she got to the stop sign!

I am glad you will have help unloading and I am looking forward to pix *hopefully* of the highboy. I just saved one from a trash out a couple weeks ago!

I'm not sure there will be much to take pictures of, but if there is, I'll see what I can do. We may just play games all weekend. Seriously. I'm taking a box full of them with me. :)

Total funness! I wish I lived closer to you Calli, I would love to join in on your game nights!

About 5 years ago, I helped a mate move his stuff into a removal truck. He had a whole room piled from floor to ceiling with boxes and some antique Chinese furniture. He, like me, arrived in China with a suitcase. Now...well, he 'accumulated' - a lot of antique market stuff he used to sell on ebay.
Luckily it was only down two floors, but still manouvering a dresser as well as the boxes down narrow winding stairwells wasn't easy.

He wouldn't let the driver go off on his own; fearing he might steal it all and onsell it. For that reason, I do the same. Even if it means an all day drive.
lol... I've ben lucky with drivers; we usually share cigs all the way and he never refused me a pit-stop for a piss.

Why do I keep on nodding off at the computer but then when I try to sleep it is an epic fail?

Careful. Don't hit your forehead on the keyboard.
(of course, yours is probably handheld, unlike my Luddite-approved mac mini.)

Actually I am set up so I can lay with my foot up, my HP touchsmart on a table just off the couch. This way I can keep the foot above the heart and minimize swelling. No fear of hitting the keyboard with my head, but I am sure there are other hidden dangers.

My dog has become very protective of me. I cannot walk (crutch) through the house without him following my every step. He lays right next to me, last night he jumped up on the couch and tried to use my foot for a pillow. That was not so fun. Today my four year old nephew was here all day. He would not let him near me. He didn't want him anywhere near my room. I think he thinks he is the boss while I am injured. Silly little prince Cody.

It's good to have a protector, even if it ruins your social calendar. So-- I can't come into your room, because of the dog! Not that I was planning to do so... I might as well be on Mars.

Cody would viciously sniff your eyeball. Don't ask me why, that's his thing. Some dogs sniff butts, some dogs sniff eyeballs. I prefer the eyeball variety.

Yikes! That is really vile!

I'm happy your surgery went well. :rose:

 How do you hide something like that for 9 months?

Thank you and yes, gypsy, I don't understand the way people live sometimes. However, at the end of the day it feels good to make a house look more like something someone could come into, gut, and make into a home again. Prior to our services I think more people would consider demolition and starting all over again!

I love your new av!

 How do you hide something like that for 9 months?

Excellent question! also, Why?

Opioids? I was wondering how your surgery went. Hope you are over the tough stuff and on the mend!

Hi Magic! Yes on the opioids, every four hours, which since the nerve block wore off does not seem often enough, but I am blaming them for the lack of sleep. I am keeping it elevated and iced and am looking forward to the two week marker when they will change this soft cast into a hard cast. I am going to use my markers to decorate it....good thing I have them huh?

I was just looking to see how jezzilee is doing. Jezzilee, do you normally have lots of energy? Your job would seem to demand it. D

Hi Elle! Thanks for thinking of me... I am doing okay. Very bored, and yes, I am a very high energy person. I am counting the days til my first Dr. appointment.

How goes the gardening?

No! I live in the UK, but there is stuff to do all year. We garden on clay, so its not always border gardening, with the flower beds, but there is rougher stuff to do, hedges through winter, clearing rough areas ( this is a huge part of our garden here, it a new garden on a very old plot, and much is being reclaimed from the rough) , planting bare root trees or plants while ground isn't frozen. Winter pruning after the new year, ( I love pruning:eek:). Moving stuff. ( reminds me I want to move a rose, and this might be a good weekend to do it. Maintaining fences and stuff. Stripping ivy, weeding. Weeding. Weeding. :(. Last year was really mild, and grass grew almost year round, so that was annoying. Marking out landscaping, maybe getting Into some if the conditions are forgiving enough! Propagating inside......There is NEVER enough time or resources to keep up, and there is almost always something to do. I just accept nowadays I cannot do it all!

That sounds awesome! I love working outside. When I lived in Pennsylvania my neighbors house burned down. He told me I should utilize any of the plants, shrubs and trees that were over there. What did I go for first? an eleven foot high rose of sharon tree. I dug out the root ball, which was massive, managed to drag it on a tarp and then used the tarp to pull it across his lawn, into my lawn. That was so much work but my daughter told me the other day, it's still there and it is lovely.
