Help me! I need some Oprah news!!!

link

In the January's O magazine, Oprah Winfrey confesses that she now weighs 200 pounds and has "fallen off the wagon.

"I'm mad at myself," writes Winfrey, 54. "I'm embarrassed. I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?'"

In the article (obtained by The Associated Press), Winfrey, 54, says she has struggled with an out-of-balance thyroid and the condition made her develop "a fear of working out."

She confessed that she's packed on 40 pounds since she weighed 160 pounds in 2006.

"Yes, you're adding correctly; that means the dreaded 2-0-0," Winfrey says. "I was so frustrated I started eating whatever I wanted - and that's never good."

She says she hit rock bottom earlier this year when she wanted to skip an April 26 taping with Cher and Tina Turner in Las Vegas because she felt like "a fat cow.

"I wanted to disappear," says Winfrey, who has famously yo-yoed over the years (she once weighed as many as 237 pounds).

She goes on to say that her goal now isn't to be thin; she just wants to be healthy.

Hey, Gayle just likes a chick with some meat on her bones! :D

I think sometimes she lets her insecurities out in the media.

people will love her no matter how much she weighs.

One of America's richest celebrities is miserable because of her self-image? If I was her I'd call the bank and have them deliver a couple million in ones, which I would then dump on my living room floor and proceed to wallow around in. I swear, people with too much money have no idea how to enjoy it - or themselves.

An 'out of balance thyroid'? How about eating too damn much. A woman her age and height shouldn't weigh over 160. She's just killing herself. :(

Then shut the hell up already!

Jesus. Give a celebrity a soapbox and they'll stand on it until they've worn it out. At which time, they get another one.

Oprah's beginning to see the end of her career, and she's desperate to generate as much attention as she can. I'm wondering what's fatter, her ego, or her body.

I do understand and appreciate that Oprah Winfrey does a lot of good with the Angel Network and Make-A-Wish Foundation and she's been a godsend to many an obscure author. But the "mother/martyr" shtick is getting old. To listen to her, Oprah is both the "everywoman" and savior.

Living with someone who has a diagnosed, real, and treatable thyroid condition, for which there is medication, for which there are no excuses for not exercising, all I can say is: "Oprah, put down the mic, stop looking at the cameras, stop checking the blogs and newsletters and wondering what's going on with your MySpace page. Get off the couch, get on a treadmill, and walk a few miles like everybody else does."

Or, at least, should. ;)

Oh man! Are you gonna get the hate mail from the O-Bots. Their leader can do no wrong. She knows all about littachoor too...she has a book club. :D

Yeah, I know. ;)

But I hold little weight (pun intended) for the bemoanings of celebrities who have gotten too used to every little detail of their lives being attended to by legions of adoring fans.

Take a chill pill, Oprah. Don't forget you're as full of shit as everyone else on the planet.

:p

:p

It's all about publicity...nothing like a celeb pity party to garner some headlines...Britney Spears goes nutso...Wynona Ryder takes five finger discounts...Madonna joins some weird religon...it's all publicity or there's nothing and you're yesterdays news. ;)

To be honest, I hardly think the majority of them truly understand just how much of their lives is made public. I figure they have a tendency to ignore the blurbs in the news rags and whatever crap is posted about them on various blogs . . . but now and then, "someone serious" (think the offer of money/exposure/whatever) wants to have a little interview.

Popularity is a drug. Once you have it, you want more of it. You can't resist the allure unless you have some major willpower.

Otherwise, you're "leaking" sex vids or posting about how wonderful your morning bowel movement was.

Jeez, I'm getting cynical. Is that what happens with middle age?

I wouldn't know...I've been a cynic since I could think for myself...or at least a skeptic...and I remember middle age quite fondly. :D

I'm out of here...bedtime for the Tomster...take care dude. :)

Many people can't separate looking good from feeling good.

Focus on the second thing BEFORE the first.

Thats' why I love Gok Kwan

And this is a problem because..........(speaking as a 200+ lb person) ?????

Speaking of which— how many people are aware of the blowhard airhead Jenny McCarthy's [sic?] idiotic pronouncements on childhood vaccinations?

Would somebody please muffle the exhaust emanating from that l'il empty head?

It's a problem because OPRAH SAYS IT'S A PROBLEM!!! She fell of the wagon! Her thyroid is acting up! She has exercise-o-phobia!

Back when she was skinny you knew it wasn't going to last. It's easy to be skinny when you have three chefs and two dieticians and four personal trainers following you around to prepare your meals and make sure you exercise and all that. It's different when you go off the diet.

Obot this.

Oprah, for all her faults, is thousands of times more successful than you. She does plenty of wrong - unless, of course, she can walk on water, which she can't.

I mean, seriously. Damn her for having opinions and speaking out about it.

Oh by the way how many successful careers have you launched, compared to her? How many people have you helped, compared to her? She's done a hell of a lot more than most wealthy people.

Oprah is one of the richest people on Earth who gets out with the people and actually listens to their concerns and makes good stuff happen.

She's charitable.

In the extreme.

So this ain't about her being able to do no wrong. It's about all the right that she's done, and a bunch of small minded people failing to see this big picture and getting on her about the odd weight rant or two. For her being a rich person, this "failing" is far preferable to, say, an athletic rich dude pulling a multimillion dollar golden parachute while laying off thousands.

Yes, I'm quite sure this went way over the O-basher-bots' heads but oh well.

How she ever got off of her diet astounds me. Apparently the Best Life guy doesn't follow her around 24/7.

This is a good point on the thyroid issue. Yes, medication changes can be rough, and sometimes they make it hard to do these things. However, I am close to two people who have thyroid issues. Both routinely workout and eat a healthy diet in order to maintain or lose weight.
