Afghanistan's gov't is not functioning. The Afghanis did NOT want Hamid Karzai. Women in many areas of the country are still forced to wear Burkas. We are still losing soldiers and Karzai is facing many assassination attempts but they never report that on the news.

BUT THEY HAVE TEH TELEVISION NOW! THEY'RE TEH GOOD KIND OF MUSLIMS NOW!

I don't get the impression that we're being duped at all. I hear all of this on the news.

And I think you meant to say "gloss", not "glance".

There is alot of work remaining if Afghanistan, I don't think anyone thought it was going to be easy. There is still a long way to go, but I am optimistic positive things can evolve in the long run. I don't think we can dispute that the people are better off right now than had the Taliban still be in power.

I'd just like to point out that many roads and bridges have been rebuilt, as have schools. The irrigation infastructure has been improved. 91,000 Afghan families were distributed seed and fertilizer which will result in 42,000 meteric tons of wheat at harvest. These are key steps being made towards making the Afghans more self sufficient and having to rely less upon external food aide.

Lot's of work has been done with teachers, recieving additional training and beginning training for the next generation of educators. Over 2 million Afghans recieved medical health assistance, over 90% of those were women and children.

$21.6 million has been authorized for the SDI project, helping in the areas of Human Rights, Judicial, and Constitutional elements.

52,000 metric tons of food was stored in reserve to take Afghans through the winter.

These are just a few of the positives being done in Afghanistan. It's very much an uphill battle but there are good things coming out of it.

I don't see why it should be as American destroyed the country in the first place.

It's bit like throwing a few coins to a handful of beggars and feeling good about it...

no, we are going to destroy Iraq.

Get your third world countries in order please.

While we agree on the impending imperialistic adventures of Bushy and the Beaters, the very mention that Afghanistan was not justified is insane.

Come on pp, a country has a right to defend itself against a clear danger. The Taliban and Al Queda were that danger. Are you implying they were harmless?

If yat can't 'change' them - make them dig 'freedom.'

I mean we ain't makin'um where the robes.

Hell - we want the women naked.

If ya can't lead a horse to water - and ya can't make them drink -

Fuck'um - they deserve a two-by-four to the brain pan.

The world's better off without human animals anyway.

(just a joke folks - sorry for you soft stomach non-Marines out there - please notice my smiley face)

Don't know about the Taleban. As far as I can judge their only crime was to give shelter to al Qaida...

But al Qaida itself is definitely not harmless.

But you can destroy a country without necessarily blowing it to smithereens. Like destroying its infrastructure and its stability...

That's precisely what the US did and is now dragging its heels in building what it destroyed...

Despite Bush's fine words to the contrary...

I'd love to agree with you here, but unfortunately sometimes the use of drastic force is required.

Right... it was the US that destroyed the country and not the fighting between the Soviets and the Afghans, and the warlords.

Christ you really are trying hard to accuse anyone else but America aren't you...

And you are really trying hard to soley blame America. When America began bombing, the infrastructure was already destroyed.

Your assesment that America destroyed Afghanistan couldn't be more incorrect, but I realize it fits well into your beliefs. Lighten up pp_man, the Afghans are better off today than they were under the Taliban, you should be happy for them.
