Why is it that when I mention Machiavelli to a group of supposed "peers" they think I'm talking about a TUpac "album"
Sometimes I feel so old, and yet my attitude smacks of juvenile elitism

There's a whole group of people who think tupac is still alive and making music and while none of his albums were actually called
Machiavelli,(it was called Makaveli different spelling same pronunciation) The beginnings of Tupac's transformation to Machiavelli started on the album Me Against the World where he changed "Thug Life" to "Immortal Outlaws." Everyone affiliated with this assembly of rappers each changed their name to a labeled dictator or political philosopher: Noriega, Napoleon, Hussein, and Khadafi.

This can be connected to Tupac's own school of intellectual thinkers communicating via albums rather than through books. Tupac becomes the leader of his army, the general, the strategist on record, starting and ending every song

Hence them renaming him in "street" term Makaveli,

Why is it that my only response to that is in remembering the opening to an old 60's song by Country Joe & The Fish

Dear god quasi,
If you have even one shred of decency you'll type the words for us.

If I can't appeal to your since of decency then do it for the country or insert motivation ___________
and do it for that/them

Dest., I'll go one further. Tupac always meant Tupac Amarru, the last Incan chief to stand up to the European conquistadors. Pissed me off when new the late Tupac took up the name. So obviously I know which Mach. you refer to.

Since I DON'T have a shred of decency,
I WILL recite the opening of the song I had in mind:

CJ: Give me an "F!"

TF: "F!"

CJ: Give me an "U!"

TF: "U!"

CJ: Give me an "C!"

TF: "C!"

CJ: Give me an "K!"

TF: "K!"

CJ: What's that spell?

TF: "Fuck!"

CJ: What's that spell?

TF: "Fuck!"

CJ: What's that spell?

TF: "FUCK!"

From there it turns into an anti-Vietnam War protest song.

When did this thread suddenly take a turn towards persons who take diuretics?
MG

This old man doesn't need diuretics. One cup of tea or a glass of Diet whatever with cyclamates is enough. Used to need 12 pints of beer.

Oh, the delights of age.

Ah yes, the I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag, a favorite of Vietnam Vets and possibly the greatest song from Woodstock!

Dear Mr Harold,
I thought nobody used "fixin' to" anymore. Except for my dad, of course, he's an Okie.

Ps. Dad also gets up people's nose more than anyone in the area.

All the gangsta' are years too late anyway. Let's hear it for the artist formerly and now again known as Prince!

I prefer the artists known as "Queen".

None of the Princes are noted for musical ability.

Gauche: Prince, little black guy from Minneapolis with a fondness for lace and leather pants. Very influential in the modern music scene although he reached his most visible in the late 80's and early 90's.

Why did I mention him?

Because he pre-dates the gangstas and The Prince was Machiavelli's, right?

Ogg,

Freddy Mercury was an amazing talent and Queen an excellent band, but just because you don't care for Prince's music doesn't mean he's unskilled or lacking in talent. He had a huge influence on the Minneapolis music scene as well as on the careers of quite a few successful musicians. He brought a new sound to rock'n'roll and was bringin down racial barriers long before white suburban teens started letting out the elastic in their waistbands and saying "my bad".

Yeah yeah yeah I know who Prince is/was (I think his songs are much better when recorded by others) but the Machiavelli thing I didn't cotton to. Very good. Very good.

Dear Quaz,
How true. He works on the other end. Dad says nobody shakes hands with colorectal surgeons. Don't blame them
