29 H's and 1 E! Wow!

So much for you being the unapreciated underdog! You misrepresent yourself. your not *just* the king of Bashen, you're the king of Lit!

Is this a well known fact that I've only just realized?

Long live the King!

SweetPetootie,

Og is a lot like Rodney Dangerfield.

He has made an outstanding career out of complaining that he doesn't get any respect. ;)

I was thinking he reminded me a little bit of Eeore. "Don't mind me. Nobody ever does."

I loved Ogs Bridget story (the first one- it was perfect the way it was, so I didn't want to read a sequal). I didn't like White Scut, of course, but I was impressed with the fact that it was probably the third submission ever to the category. I do like how ogg is willing to really put himself out there with something experimental- even if it doesn't go over well.

I wonder how he feels about those H stories. Did he 'sell out' on them? Do they represent his best work or just his most mainstream? Can he tell before he posts if a story will H or flop?

Humph! Thank you - I think I should say.

29Hs and 1E out of over 80 submissions is not a good success rate. There are many other authors on Lit and here in the AH that have better proportioned scores than that if many do not have so many submissions. There are some that have over 200 submissions, feature in the top lists of many categories, and rarely miss getting an H e.g. D.C.Roi.

I am proud of my only E.

Last year's 12 part NaNoWriMo story 'Flawed Red Silk' has my best proportion of Hs despite all 12 parts being written, edited and posted within a month. That seems to prove that I write better when I don't think about my writing.

Usually I have no idea when I hit the 'submit' button whether a story will succeed or fail. I can tell whether I like what I have done.

Some I know will fail because the story isn't particularly good or is aimed at a very limited and specialised audience.

Not good: Halloween Viking, Don't Fall In, Hen Party and Stag Party - the last two are my earliest stories written long before I joined Literotica and in dire need of a rewrite.

Specialised: Bagged at the Opera, The Virgin Unbirth, The Vinyl Dress and Trapped. The audience I wrote each for seems to like them but they will never have mass appeal.

Experimental and just plain weird: White Scut and Donna written for the then new Erotic Horror category before the genre developed. White Scut was, and is, a deliberate joke and the next to lowest scoring story in its category. The Giant Squid was just to prove I could write tentacle porn. My version of Gulliver's Travels, as yet unfinished, just to show myself I could do Jonathan Swift.

Ones I like: 1. The three Brigit stories. The 4th is being written now. 2. Danger Naked Woman (2 parts) my murder mystery. 3. The Worst Chain Story Ever Chap 01. and last my version of the Literotica Olympics.

I don't think I have ever 'sold out' just to get an H. I have tried to write valid stories which have some erotic content but I will never be rated high in the popular categories. Those who like my style are kind to me and those who don't like that style usually don't have the stamina to get to the end and vote. One advantage of being verbose is that if someone reads to the end that is because they like what they are reading.

I appreciate the opportunity to express what I feel about my stories. However my ultimate audience and harshest critic is myself. I know the next one will be better, or if not that one, the one after that.

The feedback I have received from Literotica and particularly from AH regulars has helped me improve my writing far more than the creative writing course I attended.

I intend to continue to experiment and to ignore how many Hs I get. I know that others will get more, and more consistently get acclaim, because they know their audience better than I do. I would be very surprised to find anyone who likes ALL my work.

Ogg,

Cool! You really know how to give an answer.

I think that you are probably one of the most respected writers here- at least on the AH, where even when we don't 'get you' we sorta 'get you'! (Hope that made sense)

I too, have some stories that I've posted that just aren't that good, and some that I guess are just unapreciated:) The ones that I know aren't really good (like Ex Sex) are always on the backburner for a re-write, but then again I have new ideas constantly wanting to be developed, so of course I just don't get to it.

I imagine with some of your specialized stories, the feedback you get from people who really like them far outweighs the votes from the majority who probably never knew what they were getting into when they opened one of your stories! I read that breastfeeding one, and it had a certain 'girl power' quality, but it wasn't, as you might say erotic (to me)

I can't really tell sometimes if you are too hard on yourself (as it sometimes seems) or if, as I suspect you are just being self-depricationgly 'above it all' Regardless, you obviously have a body of work to be proud of, for a variety of reasons.

Perhaps your ratio isn't that good. You could always improve it (as I could mine) by simply removing the stories that don't garner an H. But I know that neither of us will do that.

Even though it's not the best ratio, I think it's better overall than someone with two or three stories which have 100% ratio of H's. Even one E is so amazing to me- i salivate for that E!!!

Thanks for visiting my thread. I hope that it didn't offend you in any way!

Success ratios

Sweetnpetite,

You have 7 Hs out of your 19 stories, a 'success' rate of about 39%.

I have 29 Hs out of 82 stories, a 'success' rate of about 35%.

Statistically, you are a better writer for Literotica.

My E story doesn't have an H. It appealed to Laurel.

One of my limited appeal stories, Bagged at the Opera, is rated at 3.36 with 14 votes and 6633 views. Most authors would be appalled at a rating that low.

It has only one public comment. I'll quote it because it is from an anonymous respondent:

"I'm a married female in her 30's, currently on anti-depressants that made my sex drive go fron 55mph to maybe 5 at best. (With my husband using every trick in the book--so to speak--at once).
That was well written, imaginative, and sexy. Plus, I think someone just FLOORED the gas pedal to the metal. Thanks. I needed that. Writer? Try to publish! You can do it. "

That sort of comment makes writing worth while. Bagged at the Opera has been criticised, as have several of my stories, for lacking sex.

I enjoy writing for Literotica. Yes, I moan about lack of appreciation and beg for votes. I think that I have some justification. Some of my stories take over a year, if ever, to reach the minimum 10 votes needed to appear in the listings. As for 50 votes for the monthly competitions? Except for the seasonal competition entries I rarely reach 25 votes.

Once, Oh happy hour, one of my stories got to 10 votes with a perfect 5. For about an hour or two, before the trolls struck, I was rated top rated of all stories on Literotica. Now that story doesn't even have an H.

I and We may moan about the rating system from time to time and complain about trolls. I know my stories get far more attention here on Literotica than anywhere else on the net. For that I am grateful. My total views are approaching a million. If only I could sell books at that rate!
