Is it possible to message a Literotica member who is not currently on line?
I am told it is and it eventually reaches the email account they've registered with Lit ?

Advice please

Yes, the envelope icon near the top of someone's profile, and the Send Instant Feedback link under Contact Author at the bottom of the profile both do the same thing, they send a message to the user's e-mail. It's not instant, it takes about a day to get there, so there must be some kind of moderation (for spam? abuse?).

In fact there's also an envelope + Send Private Feedback link at the end of each story. I can't remember if I tested this to confirm it does the same thing.

It does send a message within the forums.

If your profile preferences say so, and (more on this in a moment) if email delivery is working for you, you’ll get an email notification that you got a message, including just the subject, but not a full copy of the message.

Email delivery working properly is a separate topic. More than zero people don’t successfully receive emails from Literotica, and it’s not the spam folder.

I've never seen Lit do broadcast emails. I have received messages from Laurel to my email address, in the context of taking down illustrated content, a couple of years ago, but that was a targetted message.

Other than that, all site communication has been through the PM system, same as any other in-house comms.

I get more input from random folk through Story Feedback - PMs are generally fellow AHers going private or narrow-casting about something.

If you've got your email contact is okay box ticked. You can turn Feedback off if you don't want any contact.

The whole message comes through to your email account, and it's up to the sender whether it's sent anon, or they give their own email address. There's no notification, you get their whole message, and from that point on, it's outside Lit.

If they're on the forums here, they must have created a main account, so they have a profile like an author even if they haven't published stories.

I’m speaking of notifications. Until about April of this year I got notifications whenever I got private messages. have hundreds in my email inbox (pre-April).

In preferences, (under modifying my profile from the forums side), there are settings for:

Email options
  • Receive news and update emails
  • Receive email when a new conversation message is received

Thanks that’s helpful but what if I want to write to someone who isn’t an author?
Works fine. You may also have to enable private messages, and sending to others is contingent on the other person having enabled theirs

Go to your forums-side profile (the icon or initials to the left of the envelope, but it may depend on your options for new or old. “Da site has a lotta options” (Willy Cicci/Ciccio voice), and see the settings under “privacy” for allowing others to contact you, then “preferences” for email alerts about messages, if you’re lucky.

I'd forgotten about all those options. Early on I turned off all the options to get e-mails every time someone quotes me, or I'm watching a thread, or...! I'm on the forum for those. I don't want my e-mail cluttered up. Now I have it set so that I get an e-mail if someone actually wants to e-mail me - using one of those feedback options.

Haha, that's why I don't see notifications. Turned those off fourteen years ago, when I joined.
