Official Support Thread - 5th Annual 750 Word Project

Published my first today, gonna submit my second maybe tomorrow or Friday.

I have an idea for a third but dunno if I wanna push it. I really need to get a FULL story finished at some point lol.

Been fun reading everyone's so far.

Mine was doing well, until someone gave me a 3 (if I'm computing the average right).
For what it's worth, I just went through a bunch of 750-word stories, from any name I recognized including everyone here, and voted them all five stars. My thinking was, we all need a "750-word handicap".
Honestly, though, y'all wrote some pretty outstanding stuff. Didn't think twice about the 5 star ratings.
I enjoyed yours but I was left with a wicked idea - to write it in translated English, the sort you have to decypher on Ikea products and Chinese imports 😁

Lace bras can barely hide erect nipples. Loosen your bra button. let's drop it Press your soft breasts together. Nothing is perfect. Put your thumb inside the waistband of delicate lace panties. Tuck it under your hips. They float on the floor like rose petals. A well-groomed conspiracy cannot hide erect labia.

Well this is fun. I've never had stories go up in the middle of the day, and less than 24 hours after uploading. Here are two of my three 750 entries, the third uploaded mere minutes ago.

(Never mind. My bad. The stories are marked "New" in the Works list, but are technically still in the "Pending" queue. I guess they'll actually go live tonight.)

I seem to be stuck on a mature hotwife theme this year. Third one is another variation of it. I guess ya' go with what 'ya know.

I liked it—I just gave it 5⭐️’s! I think the scoring might be hurting a little cuz there’s no mention of the 750 word challenge. Maybe an acknowledgment on your bio page?
for the first time, ever, it didn't have all my prematter on the story. Under the title, it should say a 750 challenge tale, but doesn't. No biggie, I had several versions of the story saved. Maybe I got the wrong one. Of coures, with only nine stories, not that big of sampling is it?

@stickygirl, @AlinaX, ROFL. The thought had crossed my mind, but I wasn't writer enough to pull it off. Not sure I did much better with the voice I ended up using. It felt clumsy.

Huh....so..I just received a comment stating that my story is actually 751 words....and sure enough, Lit claims it to be...but GoogleDrive (where I wrote it) calls it 750.....I wonder where the discrepancy is...

My story remains in pending but is noted as “New” also. It will publish overnight. Usually I get excited for new posts, but I have no idea what to expect from the 750 word world.

As was previously noted, I think, different programs handle hyphenated words differently. Slight discrepancies can be expected.

That I am not sure of. But I do know that the official challenge states:

Write a story that is EXACTLY 750 words by Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Literotica Control Panel Editor count
So I know I am good to go, and feel comfortable with my submission. Would love to know what cause the different count though...

Here's mine:
Brooke Works at the Hardware Store

I watched it out of the gate (my Wednesday afternoon), saw it go Red H after about three hours, then the 20th vote was a one, because it dropped down (but I didn't bother with the maths). Overnight it's now at 69 votes, 2600 reads. Some commenters from here have popped in (thanks guys), and one person didn't like my last line.

Not in so many words - or did I lose count again?
I posted that it had already been mentioned that different programs handle hyphenated words differently. I also now see that the Lit. count includes an author's note wordage in the story posting, but we were already told the title and author's note wordage was not included in the 750.

Weird.

People seem to like one of mine. I mean, I like it too, but…:nana:
I just read your "Braless Brenda" story. It doesn't seem to be complete, ending in the middle of the scene. It suddenly ends with a cliffhanger.

Umm, didn't I answer that already?
You answered generally yes. But I already knew that. I was simply stating that I was curious as to the specific word/instance that pushed my count to 751...It's great to know what things could cause it..but that does not point me to the specific thing in my story that did it.

As promised, here is my first story
750-1 Saturday Morning
I'll submit my next story tomorrow. I'm like that kid who opens his Christmas presents slow to draw out the fun.

I got two comments already, and the first one was "I counted 770 words!!!"

Dear Astute Reader,
It appears that you also counted the part that said "Content Note: This is a little story for the 750 Word Project 2023. Beneath this line are exactly 750 words"

People warned me this would happen, but I said "No, it can't happen, nobody is that foolish..."

Could be something as simple as an extra gap by a hyphen, rendering a linked-up word as two linked -up words.

Given that 'flash fiction' was all the rage about ten years ago, I've always been surprised that so many Lit readers treat the 750s with a different kind of rage. I therefore expected the response to mine this year to be similar to what I had before: mostly apathy, some hostility towards 750s in general, and a little mild approval.
What I've seen today has been something very much other than that.
In going on four years here, my largest vote count for a story is 190. This 750-worder is on pace to exceed that amount before the first day is done.
It stands to reason that a story that can be read in about five minutes would get a high vote-to-view ratio. For me, that didn't happen before.
I'll post a link, although it seems like everyone has already found it.

Why bother? You came up with 750 yourself. What is the compulsion to mess with it further?
