You may not know her name, but Octavia Butler was a rare talent in the science fiction field and had books that were placed on the main-stream, literary shelves, not just in the sci-fi/fantasy section. She passed away Friday, quite suddenly and unexpectedly.

Ah fuck. I have a shelved novel idea that was heavily influenced by Parable of the Sower. She was a great sci-fi writer and I will definitely miss the work she will never write. Sci Fi and Literature in general has truly lost a great.
