I just returned from a business trip to Vancover - my first real trip to Canada. Such a lovely place! Aside from the natural beauty, everyone was exceptionally friendly, from the cab drivers to the hotel and restaurant staff, to random people on the street whom I stopped to ask for directions. Great seafood, great views, and everything was so very clean. It didn't seem to be an expensive place to visit, either, at least not compared to San Francisco.

My only regret was that I did not meet a Mountie or a moose, but I suppose that's just another reason to go back.

Yay, Canada! Thanks for a great trip.

You're welcome.

If you want to visit a very beautiful city, try Quebec City next. I liked it even better than Vancouver.

I lived in Vancouver in the mid 90's. You're correct, lovely place. Wish I could have stayed longer; I didn't see even half of the things I wanted to.

Vancouver is actually one of our less friendly places. The east is the friendliest, but you can't understand what they say most of the time. Then it slowly gets less friendly as you go west :)

For being our nation's capital, Ottawa is quite nice, it is also the home of the Mounties, so you are almost sure to see one, in full uniform to boot. As for the Moose, you'd probably have to go further north to see one this time of the year. Small towns up north, like Timmins (Ontario), or Flin Flon (Mining town in Manitoba).

I'd be more than happy to be your tour guide the next time ;)

Thanks, we are very friendly folks. I know it's a great country and it's good to hear the same from others, come back soon :)

Mounties

Hey if you want to see mounties, their main training centre is in Regina, which (please fellow Canadians don't laugh at me) is a really cool city! I ended up on a layover there with Air Canada (Frickin Cheapskates won't let you fly straight through on Aeroplan Points) and had a blast. Saw the RCMP training march and just toured around this Prairie city that is trying so hard to be cool, and is getting there. Check it out sometime, it's in Saskatewan.

(No I'm not from the Saskatewan Tourist Board I swear!;))

Ok, that is a disappointment, but how many squirrels did you see? :D ;)

Glad you had a good time, you also missed out on meeting a local bear! Yes, we'd be much cheaper than SF, plus you americans get 25% more for your dollar!

Your welcome, but tell me? How the hell did you wade through the big hair? :|

Seconding Rob's suggestion. Only been there once, but had a blast and it's a wonderful place just to walk around. The food and drink weren't bad either. Granted, it was summertime, but the winter festival there looks cool too.

Tempting. VERY tempting, and I wish I could take a trip to Canada right now, but alas, a squirrel bitten bum will have to be something I go without for the time being. Life's a bitch. ;)

:D :p

I think I said O's nuts, first? LOL (amusing self ;) )

The SO and I had a very pleasant trip to Canada as well, about four years ago now. We were only in Toronto and the surrounding area for a couple of days, but enjoyed it thoroughly. We keep making noises about going back. I suppose at some point we'll have to; the dog is Canadian, and sooner or later I guess it's going to be her turn to pick the vacation.

I've always wanted to go to Quebec City, so that's already on the list. I may have to add Regina if that's where the Mounties are sourced. No one ever said, "eh" although I did hear a few oots and aboots.

Stanley Park had more than a few squirrels and it may be mating season, Lou - you'd better hurry.

Mostly, I'm glad I can now add Canada to the list of places I'd be willing to move in the event the Bush dynasty continues and I feel the need to seek asylum.

I have no qualms with Regina, I stayed overnight there once, and went to a night club, it was the best club I've been in yet. (Not that I've been to a club in any other city though.. just small towns.. heh)

It's an alright place.. my mom is from Sask... but I wouldn't want to live there :)

Next time you are in the area, please contact me before hand. Vancouver is only a few hours off, and I venture there at least once every couple months. We will do coffee! (Or beer.) :nana:

Nobody's mentioned Montreal, so I'd like to. Montreal: a fine handsome city, and as soon as you try a couple of words of French, a most friendly place.

Patrick.

Canada-- Isn't that where the natives sit around under sombreros all day long dozing in the sun and play guitars at night?

Or am I thinking of Scotland?

Actually, Dr_M, I think you are referencing Ireland here!
