NY Lit Gathering: Brainstorm thread

Now that we have about 25 interested people, what might you like to do?

Any ideas are welcome.

A one day event, an evening, a weekend?

Activities?

Who plays pinochle? A pinochle tourney might be fun! Well....maybe not, but what might be?

maybe you could rent the local YMCA pool for an hour or so and you could have a water volleyball tourney., races for the swimmers. the non swimmers could be the judges.
i would imagine most ymca facilities rent the pools for parties.

card tourneys are good too because the winners move to new tables and you get to meet everyone.

wish i could be there with you guys but, hey, have fun. i envy you guys. it sounds like it could be a blast.

I'm not sure if I'd want to get into a bathing suit in front of a bunch of semi-strangers. I think that I would be very self-conscious.

wish i could, but maybe next year! it gives me a chance to save up for the exchange rate and get my credit card paid down a bit.

course, then i still have to find my way to New York and then to whatever city this is happening in. i could always book my holidays for when it is going to be held.

I am getting so excited to meet all of you

I think I would like an weekend overnighter to give us a couple days together. I would need enough notification to make sure I can switch days off with someone at work.

Maybe when we pick a location we can look for a nice mid-price ranged hotel that has pool and a conference room (I could do some of the research there as I am a travel agent). We could have some pool time (I dont swim, but love to frolic) & we could use the conference room to put together a little party to play games, have some music and finger foods maybe get some beverages (alcohol & non-alcohol) and just get to know each other. How about we all bring some of our favorite games like: pictionary, taboo, cards, scattegories etc and just have a big game night. Hell, maybe we could play a little "truth or dare" .

Just an idea.

Maybe we could all go dancing or something afterwards. I am sure I will pop in and out with any others that come to mind, but I love games of all kinds and I think it would be a fun way to interact.

And I hope people from all over will come. I would love to meet so many of the people here at LIT.

Well ,I guess we said before it'd need to be on a weekend to facilitate travel. Sometimes hotels have bars & conference rooms.

I don't think I've played Pinnochle for 30+ years. How was that?
Ace ,10, King,Queen,Jack,9,8,7.6.5.4.3.2 ? Jack of diamonds& queen of spades is a Pinocchle, right?

hmmmm, Pinnochle and some of my favorite lit folks, just another reason to come to New York I guess.

If anyone is interested in playing online sometime, let me know. I need to keep my Pinnocle skills up, as I don't play often enough.

Well hello MissTaken and how have you been? Anyway, to the thread:

You have 25 people who are interested, but there are certain criteria(s) and other factors to consider.

The location of the people and the ability and willingness to travel

Budgets of hosts/guests and if there needs to be a secure and trusting fun or payment upon arrival.

The location of the event

People's schedule

Preferences to what people would like and not

My vote is for strip pinnochle!

Weekend is not possible for me... weekday - maybe even more then one... but weekend is, for me, unfortunately out... (Friday night is a maybe).

alrighty, i wanna see this happen so i'm all about helping MissTaken out in any way she needs

my suggestion would be this:
make it a weekend thing. with apologies to dillinger, i think a weekend would be the best way to get people together. if this isn't true speak up! anyway, something like: friday night mix 'n mingle in the conference room of some hotel. saturday night dinner at a restaurant and maybe go to a club after for those interested. other than that, let everyone plan their own activities.

i'll dig up the old thread and take a look at locations and post again.
