A criminal case against the Trump Organization and its former chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg is set for trial Oct. 24 after a New York judge Friday denied an effort to dismiss the charges.

The Trump Organization and Weisselberg face 15 counts related to an alleged tax scheme, including fraud, conspiracy, criminal tax fraud and falsifying records. They were indicted in July of 2021.
New York Acting Justice Juan Merchan ruled that, evidence presented to a grand jury "was legally sufficient to support the charges in the indictment." The judge also said the proceedings in the case have been properly conducted.

The judge dismissed one of the 15 counts on statute of limitations grounds.

Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg is expected to plead guilty to criminal charges tied to his indictment by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in an investigation of former president Donald Trump's businesses, according to two people familiar with the matter and a public court filing.

Weisselberg's plea could come as soon as Thursday at 9 a.m. Terms of the expected deal were not immediately disclosed.

That’s a big deal. Trump might not want to be his friend anymore.
Conversely, Weisselberg's plea may mean he's taking the total fall. "It was all me; Don knew nothing about it."

we'll have to wait and see, i guess

i'm hoping, though, it's more a reflection of weisselberg seeing the fallout from the search warrant execution

There is that possibility. As always, follow the money.
Weisselberg has been totally loyal and subservient to the Trumps from Papa's time. The loyalty for the old man very likely supersedes his loyalty to his own family, and he is too old to care that much for himself. (His son's neck is on the line too.)

Plea means no trial. No trial means lots of stuff doesn't get trotted out in court.

Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s finance chief, will say in Manhattan court Thursday that he conspired with several of the ex-president’s companies when he pleads guilty to state tax crimes, two sources familiar with the case tell Rolling Stone.

As part of Weisselberg’s plea deal, he has agreed to testify against The Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation at trial, which is scheduled for October.
If called to the witness stand during trial, Weisselberg will provide testimony that is the same as what he admits to in court this week, the source said. One of the sources said that while Weisselberg is agreeing to testify, that does not mean he necessarily will; it depends on whether prosecutors decide to call him.
Weisselberg will not go beyond his testimony to help the criminal probe, one of the sources said.

so he did plead guilty to 15 counts and judge orders he must respond truthfully in testimony in upcoming case against trump org. If he doesn't, he could still face 15 years.

the plea means he gets just 5 months on Riker's Island prison (likely serving 100 days) and 5 years probation, paying back all the taxes he owes and more:

Why it matters: Weisselberg's testimony may put him front and center at a future trial in the criminal case against the Trump Organization, where he will have to testify about his role in the elaborate scheme.

Driving the news: Weisselberg on Thursday admitted to all 15 felonies that prosecutors in the Manhattan district attorney’s office accused him of, but steered away from Trump and his family.
  • Weisselberg has refused to cooperate with prosecutors in their investigation into Trump and his family, the New York Times notes.
The big picture: Last year, the Manhattan district attorney’s office charged Weisselberg and the Trump family business for taking more than $1.7 million in "off the books" compensation from the organization.
With time credited for good behavior, he is expected to be in prison for about 100 days, the New York Times reported.
  • Weisselberg must also pay nearly $2 million in taxes, penalties and interest, per AP.
Under the plea deal, Weisselberg must also testify as a prosecution witness at the forthcoming trial for the Trump Organization, per AP.

trump needs to run and win the Presidency just to keep from going to prison.

"Eric? I've decided to let you and Donnie run the Trump Corporation from now on. You get to make it great again.”

Weisselberg is in for a big surprise when he goes to Rykers. By the time he gets out, no matter how short the time in was, he will have aged considerably and be broken.

Weisselberg is younger than Trump. I wonder how Trump is going to pay for his loyalty - with a promissory note perhaps.:D

When did Trump not just assume loyalty. He already paid Weisselberg as they crimed along. I don't think it will occur to him to do anything special for the man now.

I am younger than Trump too--I'm not sure I could survive 100 days at Rikers, sitting on incriminating evidence against Trump.

Two possibilities:

He gets well compensated for his silence.

He gets Whitey Bolgered.

the whole article is a must :D

trump and his lawyers so full of shit
Former President Donald Trump appears to have lied in sworn court records, opening him up to severe sanctions by a New York judge who has already lost his patience and threatened to punish him before.
Trump claimed he wasn’t the president of the Trump Organization during his four years at the White House, despite previously testifying that he was an “inactive president.” And he claimed that he didn’t have a financial stake in a partnership with the real estate company Vornado, even though he previously testified that he did.
in a previous case he testified behind closed doors that he was the 'inactive' but now 'active' president of trump org, but in the court docs he signed last week, he
swore that he “specifically denies the definition of ‘Trump Organization’” and “each and every allegation” that he was ever the inactive president of the company during four years in public office.
the Trumps last week were finally forced to answer James’ lawsuit with actual defenses.

The result was a legal document that read like a joke, with Trump attorney Alina Habba going as far as claiming there is formally no such thing as the “Trump Organization’—a ridiculous position, given that it’s a billion-dollar company Trump used to build his reputation over decades.
the judge made his point but failed to sanction trump last time, and it appears trump's decided to continue taking the piss. will the judge actually now hold him in contempt?

they're not done with weisselberg just yet: he may only have 2 weeks left to serve in Rikers, but there are additional charges ready to be brought against him that involve a $million theft.

Yes, he's currently still being paid by trump, but if he got convicted on these new charges it's a whole other story, involving hard time. And it's important to note that he's ditched his trump lawyers for ones not affiliated with that man. edit: Keith corrected this, with information showing he swapped for another lawyer still in the pay of trump org, so i guess the news isn't as relevant as i'd hoped.

"He is 75 years old. I just don't think anyone can really, except for him, understand the effect of — he would be doing — if the insurance case goes ahead against him — it's theft over $1 million. It's hard time. I think he's got some decisions to make right now about what he's going to do,"

Weisselberg traded a Trump lawyer for just another Trump lawyer.

just 34 days out from AG Letitia Jams' case against trump, and the lenders are trying to keep stuff hidden from the public eye. Judge says not so fast, boyos, ruling that apart from personal information, the truth should remain out there for public scrutiny:
Engoron wrote, “Here, the non-parties have failed to demonstrate a compelling interest in favor of wholesale sealing that outweighs the public’s right to access and the presumption in favor of open judicial proceedings." The news outlet reports:
*Some of these records form the backbone of \[New York\] AG Letitia James' $250 million lawsuit against the Trumps, purportedly showing how the real estate mogul and the family members he made executives got away with minimal scrutiny—by asserting fantastical financial numbers that weren't examined carefully\. Had they been, auditors and loan officers would have realized that Trump was easily doubling and tripling the value of property to snag better bank loans and insurance policies\.*
