I love it when a fight starts over a pronunciation.
I will attempt to shed some light on the Original subject.
The original was "Nucular", from nucular reaction. Unfortunatly, one of the Generals involved in the "Manhatten Project" could not pronounce it properly. Since HE was the boss, everyone else began to copy His misspronunciation. So the language evolved.
