Nucular vs Nuclear

FWIW, I am not a stickler for formal grammar rules.

I am. I just don't bitch about it. I can't control how others speak or spell. I just know I couldn't stand in front of millions of people and mispronounce a word. Over and over again. Just as I can't hit the submit button without proofreading. :)

Estevie, what do you think?

Is this ungrammatical or not: "We are both human." ?

If that is ungrammatical then "they are human" is also ungrammatical.

No, both are correct. But really, who cares? :D

I think "*alot" should be made, officially, one word.

Of course it is impossible to make it "officially" a proper word because we don't have an English-language equivalent of l'Académie française. I guess an entry in the OED would do.

Well, I knew that an impartial and knowledgeable third-party observer would have to agree with me, so I shouldn't have suffered the argument.

I realize that I put far too much stock in being declared the winner.

Yes. Yes, you have.

As far as battles go though, the spelling/grammar one is the most exciting, don't you think? ;)

Well, estevie, I meant that I am not a stickler to the extent that I would treat a post here as if it were a thesis.

For example, the phrase "Over and over again" in your post is a sentence fragment. I think that its presence is prefectly acceptable, but a stickler for formal written English would not accept it.

I hope you don't think that I am taking a shot at you. I'm not :)

It was just a good example.

That is what I mean by "stickler". <--- period placed purposively after the closing quote

Bah! fragment shmagment! ;)

I get your point!

Another thing, our birthdays are the same! :)

I suppose it is if you have a fondness for language. That is my response with the assumption that you're not being facetious.

Whether or not one has a fondness for language, the battle is not exciting. One does not become giddy at the prospect of discussing dangling participles. Or maybe they do. *shruggs* :)

I do. I love the nuances of language. I even keep a (haphazard) record of odd usages.

(damn I can't find it)

Had I known you would become giddy, I might have mentioned participles earlier.

And really, its ok that you can't find that list. ;)

Did you see that??? Heh!

Here are the only two entries:

I suppose it violates netiquette to harp on about something that's relationship to the list's topic is tenuous at best, though Joe, as moderator, could always let us know when we stray too far.

The man page says that (for linux) the only requirements are that it run setuid.

I liked that possessive "that's" in the first quote and the odd subjunctive construction of the second quote. I need to carry a notepad around so I can beef this list up.

- edited to add an 's' to "construction", or, rather, to "contruction"

(punctuation placement purposive)

(alliteration accidental)

See what? Where you left "find" out?

:) I also see where you use the possessive "its" where you want to use the contraction "it's" ;)

Really! There's no excuse!

Well first off, He says I am Naive, He doesnt like me disagreeing with him

I don't mean to be nit picky here, but this still doesn't imply that he thinks he is better than anyone else. He said your naive, you said he was paranoid. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Don't answer, Em. You have your opinions and I have mine. You don't need to explain anything to me. :)
