Minnie, I do need to clarify one of your claims... Texan forces won the last LAND battle of the War for Southern Idependence when the decisivly overcame the union forces at the Battle of Palmetto Ranch. HOWEVER, the confederate ship, the Shennandoah, was still carrying on the war in the waters around Alaska (disrupting union whaling and fishing efforts by capturing and/or destroying union commercial vessels) for, as I understand it, almost a year after Appomatox.

BTW, we were the 27th Star on the flag. Arizona, I believe was the 48th when it was admitted in 1912.
