The news this morning from COMCEN is quite explicit...

American troops are in the centre of Baghdad in "substantial number". Not wanting to miss a thing I went through all the news channels. Each one is carrying the story and each one have journalists in the centre of the city...

Nada, zilch, nothing. To be fair the centre is a large area but all the same no reports have come in to the news studios and the traffic on the streets, although lighter than usual, still looks fairly normal...

Buses, cars, trucks all driving along those wide boulevards we've grown used to seeing...

So where are they? These US troops? Are they in Baghdad or have they taken a wrong turn and are in fact in the centre of another, completely different, city? Have they come across the Baghdad MacDonalds and have stopped for some Mecca Macs and Freedom Fries?

Where oh where have our troops gone?

We have the same problem here. People in Dallas think they live in Central Texas. The nerve of some people.

The drinks were OK but Alf, an 83 year old bloke I sometimes chat with was on his high horse about soldiers today not knowing what it's all about (Alf was in the Korean War), and every time he made a point he slapped my arm with the back of his hand.

Unfortunately it was usually when I was lifting my bacardi to take a sip...so yeah the drinks were OK, but the my consumption was down as most of them spilled on the floor or down my shirt!

Packed it in as a bad job after seven hours...

:D

All is not lost!

They've been sighted by a BBC reporter (well one tank has) somewhere near the centre of the city...

The others haven't finished breakfast yet...they'll be along in a minute...

They're two miles from the centre of the city where the Information minister is confidently telling the worlds press that they crushed the American mercenaries at the airport and nobody has entered the city.

That man needs a reality check................... or a fast car!

Isn't it quite laughable that that guy can actually say the things he says with a straight face? I remember a few days ago that he was on the air saying that there were no American forces in Iraq at all then in the next hour we have a taped Saddam video telling the people to rise up and defeat the American invaders. That and yesterday he was saying basically the same thing.... American forces no where near Baghdad, its all an imperialist lie. Next minute he is boasting that the Iraqi forces defeated the Americans who 'tried' to take over Saddam Intl Airport.

Yo, limey,

The first forces they were reporting in Baghdad when you couldn't see 'em.. They pretty much Were invisible. When you're scouting defenses and dropping from rooftops to kill guys with machine guns it's not a good idea to be out in plain sight.

Black Pudding/Blood pudding it's..almost like a blood sausage. You fry it up for breaky :)

It's just gross :)

Haggis is much better.

Duck Eggs

Where the hell can you find duck eggs? It's been a few years.

At last count I had about twenty three chickens. Farm fresh eggs make the store bought ones look anemic. The only problem is that sometimes they all get together and stop laying at the same time. Then you have to buy eggs AND feed the bitches... grrrr

Of course all that film footage from the embedded reporters and their camera men were just a stage production.

And all of those reporters in Bhagdad have the run of the city. Going where they will, when they want.

And from any hotel in London you can see every activity in the downtown area.

I was watching the news on TV tonight at various times and different channels (in Japan of course), and nobody saw any US troops in the city-centre.

Then this Reuters guy drove around the city to the south-east and didn't see any either.

Traffic was moving along perfectly normal, although there was many people around. There were guys with guns here & there.

Local hospitals had reported 700 casualties, mostly civilians flowing in, many were injured by artillery bombardments.

....

Then at 6pm Japan Time, there were reports of a major battle near the outskirts of the city involving a small number of US troops and two divisions of the Republican Guard. Foreign military intel reported the US forces near Baghdad were in a panic desperately calling for reinforcements.

At 11pm Japan Time, the fighting had become a lot more fierce. Then both sides reported victory, of course.

Meanwhile, the US military spokesman was saying that US troops had reached the city centre....but at the same time, in a small window on the screen there were different views being shown of the city centre, and still no sign of any US troops and the traffic was moving in it's boring way as usual.

I think they got lost, probably using dodgy tourist maps or something. ;)

Have you had your cholesterol checked lately? That sounds disgusting. In my book, anytime you have to slice pudding, something is wrong. Damn Brits will eat anything, I swear. :p

Interesting (er, revolting) breakfast, sweet curmudgeon.

I think that must be why you are so grumpy!

Darling, what on earth does that type of fare do to your, um, digestion?
