Apparently.

The first hints of Trump’s new approach toward Canada became evident last week, when he began to complain about that country’s competition with America in specific industries.

“We can’t let Canada or anybody else take advantage and do what they did to our workers and to our farmers. Included in there is lumber, timber and energy. We’re going to have to get to the negotiating table with Canada very, very quickly,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday.

He later added, “Canada, what they’ve done to our dairy farm workers, is a disgrace. It’s a disgrace. Rules, regulations, different things have changed — and our farmers in Wisconsin and New York state are being put out of business.”

Trump repeated this last complaint in his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Poll Shows Opportunity for Donald Trump

On Monday, Trump added policy to back up his words by imposing tariffs up to 24 percent on Canadian softwood lumber, according to a report by Bloomberg. A reporter from Breitbart tweeted Trump as saying, “We’re going to be putting a 20 percent tax on softwood lumber coming in — tariff on softwood coming into the United States from Canada.”

In a hint that this may be part of a larger plan by Trump to renegotiate NAFTA, a trade agreement that includes America and Canada because it applies to North America, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross condemned Canada’s trade policies involving dairy and lumber in a statement which argued that “this is not our idea of a properly functioning Free Trade Agreement.”

In related news, Canada does not share a border with Wisconsin.

Awesome. :D

Now if he MOAB's Pyongyang he'll have done 3 things I approve of.

Tim Hortons is invading so a tax on coffee and donuts might be more appropriate. Might as well throw in maple syrup and hockey tickets, too.

Canada is 1/10th the population of the whole US.

If a couple limits on selling milk can put American dairy farmers out of business then they aren't very good farmers.

You are going to come to be known as Trumpistan

Wisconsin shares a coastline with Canada, so it is kind of a border state.

Being a good farmer means fuck all if the government comes in and arbitrarily fucks you over in favor of or for someone else.

If your guys are good and ours so bad, they will do fine up there in the much more sophisticated and better in every way Canada while the Trumpistan folks flail into the third world.

Thank goodness!!

Canada's government subsidized lumber KILLED the USA lumber industry.

Instead of paving over virgin wildflower meadows for yet another big box store selling foreign goods, our people can start their own businesses!!!

I live in a place surrounded by ghost towns that used to be thriving lumber mill cities. Good jobs for skilled laborers to build families. I would love to see those people's crumbling town centers rebuilt!!!

If we can get nation building industry back, maybe we can have free health care like Canada, too!

Time and time again world trade courts have ruled in Canada's favour on softwood. The US does not produce enough of it's own to meet demand and the colder winters make for better wood cut down up here.

Prepare to pay more at the pumps US as a 20% tariff is put on energy exports to the US.

Canada is the US largest trading partner. 23 US states have Canada as their number one destination for their exports.

Trump can talk loud and wave a big stick around all he wants. You don't make deals with bullies and terrorists!

The orange idiot will swing down south on a campaign tour soon and he will rant and rave to the tune of southern states interests.

Hurry up and build the Keystone pipeline. We will be able to sell more 20% price jacked up oil.

Why timber of all things? I'd imagine the last thing we'd want to is cut down all of our own trees.

Only Trump can fuck the simple stuff up like this.

How do you feel about "cutting down all our" cornstalks?

Timber and dairy are not covered under NAFTA. Housing starts are a major indicator of a good economy so lumber is crucial. Time after time courts have ruled in Canada's favour. But courts and international law don't mean much to the US. So lets have another kick at a dead horse for the sake of some publicity and pandering remarks.

Timber is a renewable resource. Its not all first growth forest stuff.

It's all part of the secret Trump-Trudeau trade deal. Trudeau plans to trade Canada to the US in exchange for his own reality TV show. Just wait, you'll see. Inside sources say the plan is for Justin Trudeau, Julian Assange and Pamela Anderson to be locked in a house with randomly selected citizens of Guatemala. It's going to be called Big Brother: Lumberjacks and Milk-Maids Oh My.

Justin already has a TV reality show. You can see it on CPAC.
Guatemalans! Why do you think the US has been allowed to exist for all these years. So as to act as a buffer between us and all those Central American Catholic baby breeding machines.
I doubt the missus will like Justin shacked up with Pammy for any length of time.

Hahaha - that is just a great line.

Its going to cost en extra $3,000.00 to build a house now.

The Donald isn't ascared of no trade war...he can afford it

If you are saying "Taxing wood is bad for housing starts" then I agree with you.

As to the renewable resource, Trump is supposed to sign the Exec order today to open up logging on Federal lands with old growth forests. Given his track record on writing executive orders I suspect it will meet with resistance.

In the scheme of things I thought the focus was going to be on taxing steel. Where is that effort? One tweet about Keystone?? Another lie from the Liar in Chief.

Trump needs the trees and butter states in the mid terms, so the drums are beating.

The rest of it is bullshit.

Speaking of milkers, a Melania / Ivanka calendar for my garage would be nice.

I'd support that.
