OK. I've been through all the FAQs I can find, but I can't find anything to support my niggling little concept that each submission to N & N needs to be 7,500 words +

Is that right? Have I made it up entirely? Does it apply only to the Survivor contest?

For Survivor, yes, each submission needs to be a minimum of 7500k words.

eg. Chapter 1 - 7500k , Chapter 2 - 7500k etc etc.

Or you can put an entire story, complete with chapters on there, as long as the whole lot was at least 7500k words.

If it isn't for Survivor, then word count doesn't matter. :rose:

I'm just here to drool, I mean say hi to rach. ;)

Hi rach. Nice to see you here. :)

I believe the 7500 word rule only applies to the Survivor contestants and their submissions to that category...

Yep, as been said by previous posters, the 7,500 rule is only applicable to Survivor contestants who want their story counted for points in that category.

Well, that's where I'm going to stick Montana Summer...

it's going back up?

And I'm counting on my recent contest entry to scare up some readership, who knows?

Can't post them as separate chapters in diff cats cos they rely on each other too much

If you don't want anyone to read you or you don't want votes : that's the place to go.

That's where I put mine.

Just remember that Novels/Novellas isn't a very popular category...

I wouldn't go that far. My novel has done pretty well as regards views and votes.

I always thought 7,500 words was the minimum required for N&N, period.

The miniature agonies of category placement went all away when I decided to go the novella way. I was also unsure of the length criteria, but then I checked out others and saw that many of the chapters were two pages or less.
I really like it because as Kendo said, it doesn't catch the glare of bright lights and pressure. If the tale goes into a sexless stretch, that's cool, if you want to experiment with different ideas, it can all go in there too. Also, away from the din, I can take my time with it, and submit edits (almost always have edited chapters pending).
but mostly, and bestly, it alleviates the category stresses and constrictions.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. I think mainly it's there for those works that encompass several categories at once.

I was thinking of it as a 'catch-all' as well.

Maybe N&N implies more of a story, as opposed to one-scene 'flash' fiction.
