Long story short?

My mother is insane. She's currently caring for my 92 year old grandmother who has alzheimers, and she (mom, not gramma) decided that not only would it be a good idea to have new carpeting installed in the bedrooms, but to host a family reunion at her house the very next day.

Big ol case of Janiebeth to the rescue. The carpet looks gorgeous, we got all of the furniture put back, despite gramma insisting it was the wrong furniture, and the carpet guys had stolen the 'real' stuff, and the family reunion was great. Next time mom calls, I think I'll let the machine get it.
