Did anyone watch last night's episode of the Shield?

The detective gets a severed hand, and all of a sudden, it's Sado/Masochistic, and I can't remember the rest of what he said. Perhaps someone else can better discribe it.

But why is it that whenever s/m, d/s or anything else that is brought up in mainstream media it's in a negative light?

Can't these people ever just be evil and psychotic without the dominating tendencies and sexual fantasies?

I'm sorry if this isn't the place for it, but I'm wondering...

Remember that writers right for the lowest common denominator to get the ratings.

S & M is hot, and it is in vogue to label stuff sadomasochistic when in fact it has no relevance.

Consider the source.

Becasue it sells so much better!

Nope, because then they could be like "you and me" and the person watching the movie or series or reading the magazine, and we sure don't want to associate ourselves with evil psychopaths, now do we? And how would you know one anyway if it were not for the black leathers and knife and whip at his/her belt?

*Taking tongue out of cheek again and admitting have no clue about what the sShield even is.... *

It is a police drama.

Same reason Jerry Springer alternates "Dominatrixes" with strippers, Nazis, and cousin-marriers

Ratings, it sells

Remember, most people who watch lots of TV are ignorant & the writers aim for that

Thanks for your responses. It just gets frustrating sometimes watching tv (I try to avoid it as much as possible.) Has it ever been shown in a good light? (Not sure if Exit to Eden counts) :)

CSI

I thought CSI was pretty positive in the episode they did that involved bdsm.

Yes...it surprised me as an exception to the rule. Usually it is the other way entirely. Could it be that BDSM is coming out of the 'bad' closet and into the 'acceptable' closet?
