I wonder? Are there other, maybe better "Free" sights for writing.
that a computer idiot could manage to find get into, and use with out going to night school for 3 months.

Not sure what's going on here.

Wordpad is an app you use to write.

"Sights" or sites are places you can publish what you wrote.

Are you looking for a web site that's better than Literotica? Or an authoring program that's better than Wordpad? Or both? Or something else?

Wow the first 2 posters are not much help! So smart they come across as rude. I wonder why they would do that is a community friendly as this one?
If you are looking for free on windows, I have been using notepad++ to code for several years. It is an app you install. Once installed you can download addons to spell check and grammar check. Many of the addons are written by non US, so the "English" is British or Indian British. Like any editor you do need to read what you wrote.
On line, Google has their version of word. You can save files local or on whatever their 'cloud' crap is. Google apps work. Like their version of Excel is almost universally "openable" with MS-Excel. As O365 updates occur MS does make changes to the MS apps to make it a little more work.
I'd be wary of tenforums. Search in google or bing for an issue and review the sites/threads with help. to go straight to tenforums to ask a question you will have to create a user and navigate a paywall. When most of the useful information there is ready in a link from a google search. One of those sites I have trusted over the years is superuser. But that is usually for queries or scripts. Lots of good advice to make code more efficient there.
When Apple comes out with another mini I may have a look. Lots of editing built right in. As time permits I have messed around with different kinds of linux. The free flavors all have great editors too. With linux, anybody can make an app. I guess if they have the time. I get lost playing with stuff people made so haven't found a favorite anything linux. Which is why I want a Mac Mini. Apple makes stuff right and doesn't nickel and dime you like windows can. For the most part you can avoid annual subscriptions.
Another note. It is hard to find but MS does have a standalone license for Office that does not require the O365 subscription. It is hard to find and once you do only downloadable. I got mine from a friend that works at MS. Once I paid and applied it I was able to take all of the O365 installs on my systems from my previous employer and put them under a single "user" as MS calls it. I created an email were I was not required to use a phone number and was able to use that as my ID and not use an email to log on to Windows 11. Once more keeping my identity separate from my phone# and any other PII. So many companies looking over your shoulder these days. If you don't believe me load up Firefox and install a script blocker. As you allow sites with the tool the URL of the tracker is identified. Amazing who is watching what you read.

Tenforums is completely free, no paywall.

Oh the irony... The first politely asked for more information and the second suggested a perfectly reasonable response considering the OP has "Windows 10" in the title of this thread.

There is no paywall on Windows 10 Forums. It is a totally logical place to ask any question about Windows 10 or of apps that run on that platform.

The OP clearly wants a free alternative to Wordpad yet you go on a diatribe about subscription and paid licensed Office suite and linux.

Here are a few free word processing apps that can run on Windows 10:

  1. Microsoft Word Online - This is a web-based version of Microsoft Word that you can use in your web browser.
  2. Google Docs - This is a web-based word processing app that is part of the Google Drive suite of apps.
  3. LibreOffice Writer - This is a free, open-source word processing app that can run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
  4. AbiWord - This is another free, open-source word processing app that can run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
  5. WPS Office Writer - This is a free word processing app from Kingsoft Office that can run on Windows.
  6. WriteMonkey - This is a free, open-source distraction-free word processing app for Windows.
Please note that, these are the basic word processors, but advanced features and formatting may require paid version.

You have an odd definition of polite. The first poster wrote more of a diatribe like a bored 7th grade English teacher. At least I hope they were not confused by the question even though some grammar issues. Second guy gave an OS tip. And maybe no paywall, but 10 forums is not so safe. I have always blocked the site but allowed links to specific topics on the proxy I have managed. As for your list of apps are online tools for the most part. I suspect most writers here want their content local and not written in the cloud. Even if you save the work local it is out there. Using the online stuff from MS is an advertising platform. Way too distracting when one is concentrating. Will have to check out Abi WPS and WMonkey. Look interesting. I like free stuff. It can be useful in certain circumstances. I mentioned notepad++ because of the way it saves your data as temp. You can close the app without saving the file and it is still there when you open it back up. And the massive array of tools that have been written to enhance the app are near endless.

I use a plain text editor.

I can't recommend it to you because I still don't know what you're looking for.

NightL listed several free word processors above.

It might help if you said what it is about Wordpad that's not working for you or that you wish was different.

Plain text is simple to me. That is why I say notepad++. You can have as many stories working as you want. And don’t even need to save them. The app caches all the tabs to disk. If you close the app bounce the machine lose power what ever they are right there. If it is fatal and the disk is readable all your live work is right there in your temp directory. Ona laptop with no internet. No problem. So simple it probably makes me dumber than I am.

I clicked the link. I did not realize it was a download before. Very nice. I am doing some upgrades to win10 to 11 and enabling the application control - whitelist feature new to defender. The protection only allows apps MS approves of and requires a system cleaned before it is enabled. As I complete that I will see if Libre is accepted or if not use it to learn how to manage the protection and allow a known safe app. Thanks for the bump.

LibreOffice Writer is very similar to an earlier version of MS Word. It will open and save doc & docx files. If someone provides you with a docx file utilising advanced features of current MS Word the layout will be different or not retain those features when opened in LibreOffice.

It has been around since 2010. Last I installed it for someone it was free of bloat, spyware and adware.

I've been using LibreOffice Writer for about two years now and I'm very satisfied with it. For being free there's not much to complain about with it.

Hmmm... OP is a little on the negative side. But, whatever. I do have one question for him/her why the hell would you want to go to Windows 11? It is riddled with spyware from the factory and it's a piece of shit.

Now, what I use is Word 2007 in conjunction with Grammarly. I have been using Word for... well, hell, since Windows 2. I did use Wordperfect for a while, but when DOS went the way of the Dinosaur I switched to Word.

I have tried almost all the ones mentioned by NightL, except the Google Docs and the Word online. Google docs think they own anything you put in their cloud and they are also in the habit of spying on you.

I also use Windows 10, yet if you looked at my screen you would think it was Windows 7. And I have software that turns off all the pesky little spyware.

Wow on your Win 11 experience. Mine quite the opposite. Much more efficient use of the processor cores, memory and the NVME M.2's directly on the 16GB bus, I have nothing but compliments. I only have one instance with Smart App Control on but have not had time to find how annoying that is. With Core Isolation added I have not added any additional spyware apps and have not seen anything yet either. This vm was Win7 upgraded along the way. So yes it has many features that were made difficult to find in a new install of Win 11. My office is 2010.
