I guess I'll probably gain a few haters for saying this, but here goes:

I am sick of seeing AmPic threads started by women (and probably men too, though I personally have not seen any) with a sob story about how they don't think they're hot.

Puhleeze. Anyone else think this is probably just them fishing for even more compliments than they'd get anyway? I mean, to post nude photos on a public forum you have to at least think you look good. Otherwise you'd expect people to say negative things and thus not wish to do so.

Just sayin'

not necessarily Elijah, while I don't have an ampic thread, I have on occasion sent photographs to lit friends privately,I like many am insecure about many body issues, and as a rule when I do send I often prefaced by depreciating my own body. It is not about fishing compliments it is actually about stating that I am aware my body isn't perfect and do not expect rate reviews. And yet I still send photographs partially from a wish to be honest and partially to confront my own daemons.while some may be fishing for complements or just kind reinforcement, others indeed may be dealing with their own daemons.
Just sayin' cause you never know what goes on inside someone's head.

That being said, I have no problem with compliment fishing (although I agree that this isn't what most actually want). Still, if I find someone beautiful or attractive (such as my gorgeous friend switchbitch up there :)) I will tell them in a heart beat as many times and as often as they wish to hear it.

If they love hearing compliments, so be it. I love giving them when they're sincere.

 damnit blushing

Everyone has insecurities about their own bodies, but having received some photos I'd say those concerns are misplaced. And I, too, am all for women fishing for compliments -- just show me the body! :)

Some might be seeking something they are missing in real life and can find it here??

Like for example I have never met switchbitch in real life, but I'm sure I wouldn't mind seeing her naughty pics here :)

I for example haven't a sex life with anyone other than myself at the moment so posting my photos here lets me express my exhibitionist side.

good for you, isn't it grand that there are just so many different motivations, desires, fantasies and emotions out there driving so many different kinds of bodies. The endless array will never get boring.

What's funny is when they say that they don't think they're hot 95% their hotter than hell.

Isn't having a ampics thread in of itself fishing for compliments?

My ampic thread is of my wife because wanted to prove to her that what I thought of her others did too. many people have an unrealistic view of themselves.

While I've never come across a sob story ampic thread (can't say I've really looked either), I'm sure there are a wide variety of reasons they're started. I can't say I completely agree that if you start a thread, then you think you look good. I think zumpkin has the right idea here. I think everyone has their own individual reasons for starting their ampic thread and yes, some of those probably include fishing for compliments, but maybe that's because that need wasn't met in real life.

That said, it's sad if someone who starts a fishing for compliments-type thread can't take those compliments. I feel like a dick for saying this, but it's also a bit rude. Some people put quite a bit of effort into replying & providing genuine compliments. It's not easy to internalize those compliments, but it doesn't take much to appreciate them at the very least.

This was more long-winded than expected, but it's interesting to think about.
