This is not a typical question on this forum (or at least, it's not the kind I've been reading ;P). Just curious, but...who all watched Bush give the State of the Union Address tonight? What were your thoughts on it (positive and negative)? I just want to get different people's impressions on it. Thanks!

Damn good speech.

US ain't perfect but with the exception of maybe Australia I can't think of ANY other country on the planet I'd rather have for a neighbor.

Good points made on business, health care - tax credits, education. Immigration is still a mine fierld. Gay marrigaes? Dunno. Personally against - civil ceremony and call it a union or something. I'm just Neandrathalic enough to think MARRIAGE is M&F. I know the pop. is split on that in some states but overall I believe high 70's AGAINST actual marriage status. Clinton actually signed a bill that limited actual marriages to M/F in '96 and George DEFTLY agreed. Bonus points for slapping judges who are making judgements on their own without LAW behind them. The same is happening in Canada. Judges are rewritting the constitution as THEY see it. Huge mistake to give that much power to the Judicial Branch. They are NOT there to MAKE laws. In Canada the government has turned over major policy decisions to judges because the PM didn't want to make an unpopular decision. Judges have now threatened the media with contempt for analizing and disagreeing with their rulings. Scary stuff.

Mostly funny watching the glum looks on the faces of Feinstein, Kennedy and other far left Dems.

Yeah, prolly a good thing you didn't watch then; you'd have hated him more afterwards. I can't stand the man, but I'd rather watch and be angry and know what's going on than ignore it entirely...although ignorance really is bliss...

Personally... I think he's doin good. I caught the details of his speech on cnn.com. Hell, he's got my vote for another 4 years. Doin better than Clinton, but then again i'm kinda anti-Clinton, the weasle got me sent to two hell holes that shoulda been turned into glass parking lots... but I ain't going into that now, Bush on the other hand... Well what can I say. He finished something that shoulda been finished in 91. But hey what do I know... I used to jump outta perfectly good airplanes and now I work on fighter jets, I can't be all that smart.

As far as I'm concerned, no. Absolutely not. THat's what judges are for , to take care of appeals and determine what they think is constitutionally correct as far as human rights are concerned. It's their job to do it; why slap their wrists for that? Our country is built on a system of checks and balances (originally devised by one of the famous philosophes of the Enlightenment, Montesquieu). The executive (President) checks the powers of the courts and Congress... but they do the same for each other, too. This system keeps our country running as smoothly as it does, and keeps any person or party from taking total control. But to say that the courts "are not there to make the laws"? No, they're not, BUT they are there to deem if the laws are constitutional.

I personally am pro-choice in most matters, including gay rights and marriage. The right to marriage and freedom of sexual orientation are constitutionally implied rights, and no person or group has the right to take that away from anyone . As citizens, we have almost unlimited personal liberties, as long as those liberties we use do not infringe upon anothers .

I never thought I could dislike Bush more than before, but I guess anything's possible.

Oh, and way to go to those democrats who applauded the soon-to-come expiration date of that disgusting thing they call the Patriot Act!! I applaud their "boos" as well.

I will not apologize for my political beliefs, and I know that when you have a staunch democrat and a staunch republican, there is little to do to dissuade on or the other.

I will stand behind anyone who is our President. While I am mailnly republican, I think Clinton did some good things for the Country, and disagree with some of what Bush has done.

What would really be nice is to see us have a good third party.

I watched it. I thought it was a decent speech. He stood up for issues that he believes in and re-iterated some not so popular views at the moment. I mean, he didn't back down from stating strong opinions on subjects he knows will be controversial in the upcoming election. Regardless of the president, I like to see them take a stand.

I was disappointed in the amount of time addressing domestic concerns. He had many quick points but I would have preferred more. Maybe i just read the early articles talking about the major focus being domestic issues so I was expecting it.

I didn't vote for Bush in the last election, not sure who i'll vote for in the next. (registered independent, vote green) I'm tired of a two-party system which promotes the divisiveness it claims to try and avoid.

I do appreciate someone who has a belief (whether or not I agree with it) and is willing to stick to that belief rather than play the opinion polls. I also respect an individual that takes the power that is given to him and is willing to go out on a limb to make difficult decisions. Even if and when they end up wrong.

Unfortunatly I was busy defending my little slice of the country during the speech......If anyone has a good link to the entire address i would love to watch it.....As for debates over the qualities of are president and his proformance I think he has done a pretty good job......If the Yahoos in DC would stop cutting military manpower and start giving us more hands and feet to cover the thousands of miles of sand and sea that as the only true superpower left on the planet we are pretty much responsible for helping those who cant help themselves.......Internal Issues and politics are important without a doubt but with so much going on in the world we needed a strong foreign policy which Bush has done quite well.....In the past few monthes things are looking good for the economy......there is no true way for a president to please everybody and make everyone happy......look at the bright and happpy years of Reagan......we loved them......now everyone complains about the deficit got considerably larger......oh well.....I feel I'm getting dangerously close to a rant so i thing Ill be going for know......Have fun

I'm gonna have to go with L5P and ABN here. But then again, I did my time serving my country, and like those two, I didn't do it for college money.

In all honesty, I'm not going to get into the political side of the debate because there's too much emotion surrounding it on all sides. I know what I believe, I believe it, and I vote according to my beliefs and how well whatever candidate will support said beliefs. Nothing anyone else says or whines about will change how I personally believe.
