I was sitting here cleaning house and setting up one of my favorite things to own. This is a chess/checkers set that my mom made for me years ago out of a wine box from a local winery where I grew up. Cut them I think with a band saw and then carved and colored their faces. The lid slides open and then the pieces are stored in the felt lined box inside.

What do you own that brings you fond memories?

I have a lot of stuff like that. I've got two shelves of my toys & such from when I was an itty bitty. But as for having lost something and then finding it and having a big wave of memories jump back at you- we recently found my mom's old Atari- I think it was a 2600 but don't hold me to it- and all the games and such for it. My little brother and I set it up and played it and it was pretty awesome.

Not like we needed it- you can get those games on an emulator all day long, but it was the nostalgic feeling, reminded me of one of the few things I liked to do with my mom. Happy memories and my ma don't generally go together, so that was pretty sweet. I think he still has it. He has my old NES too.

Nice chess set btw. I haven't played in years.

Thank you. I'm not any good at chess, I can't figure out the strategy of setting up ahead.

I still have the original NES, 64 and all their games. I've not played them in years.

Are you playing from the nutso position in the OP image, or from a properly set board?

We'll I haven't played in years actually, but I had thought I set it up correctly. Did I switch the king and queen?

Your pawns are on the wrong rows, dear. And yes, the white king and queen should swap places.

I have a little box of treasures.

The hospital bands that were put on my sons legs when they were born.

Three creased cards of Marilyn Munroe (from a collectors card dispensing machine) that were my youngest sons when he was 3 and had a crush on "his pretty little lady" as he called her. Wherever he went he wore jeans with a pocket and they were loved and went under his pillow at night.

Locks of hair from my sons first hair cuts.

A lock of bigrednzs red hair.

A few cards, a love poem and several drawings my sons made at kindergarten.

A photo my step son took of me when I had a hair dye accident and my blonde hair went red. :D He thought it was hilarious.

A handwritten birthday card from my Grand daughter.

:)
