I got my nosed pierced about two weeks now. My piercer told me to use warm water and anti-bacterial soap such as dial to clean it with twice a day. I've been doing that and had no problems till this weekend. I caught a cold.

Over the past couple of days the inside of my nostril around the piercing is swollen with this rather large bump.

Also on the outside, right above my piercing I've noticed a tiny little red bump(which now looks more grey).

Is this an infection? Should I go see a doctor or my piercer? Will this heal on its own when my cold gets better?

I'd suggest a trip to the pharmacy/chemist, whatever it is you use over there.

Okay. Can and will do.

Thanks, Ken.

Neosporin or some topical Antibiotic ointment both inside and outside of your piercing. You also may want to use one with a pain reliever. The local CVS or Walgreens should have it.

Probably nothing to worry over, but sounds like an infection, so do try to use peroxide or rubbing alcohol and certanly a trip to the doctor never hurts. :D Much luck!

Edit to add - it may simply be your cold and too much touching so irritation - just go to the doc anyway. :)

Ack! This is good for other things, but not for piercings. I went with my sister a couple of weeks ago to get her nose pierced and they specifically said to stay away from anti-biotic style ointments.

Also, my daughter got her nose pierced about a year ago and then got a cold and the bump you speak of. One good thing to get them cleaned out well and the bad stuff dried away and unswollen is dead sea salts. They should be pretty easy to find, and if you mix them with warm water and try and soak the piercing a little bit, you should see a marked difference. If that doesn't work, it's a good idea to call the shop you went to and get their advice. If they're worth their stuff, they'll have you come in and take a look. If they think it's infected, they'll give you pointers for cure or you can always ask your doctor, though they'll probably have to tell you to remove it for liability sake.

I'd try cleaning it well with natural things (inside and out) and also call the shop. To be clear, though, I wouldn't wait to take action. Infections are nothing to play around with. I hope you get it sorted soon and in a way that allows you to keep the piercing if you like it.
