Norway

Since I'm a mean-spirited S.O.B., I can't help but wonder.

Buying any carbon offsets for this rather massive CO2 footprinted junket?

P.S., they tell me the Al Gore School of Environmental Hypocrisy is well acquainted with the technique of consuming
ginormous quantities of fossil fuels whilst simultaneously proclaiming imminent CO2-caused doom for the planet.

Perg has the carbon footprint of sub-Saharan native. This trip won't make a dent in what he's got socked away.
What he said, but we probably will buy offsets anyway.

Or elk in English. Moose are similar, but North American.

Norway's a great place. And the women tend to be sexually liberated, in my experience.

There's a town in Scotland for which the nearest railway station is Bergen.

Oh, and the Norwegians have managed their hydrocarbons better than any other nation. That's socialism for you. Most right-wingers in Norway are way left of US Democrats.

And Norway is one of the richest and most egalitarian societies in the world. A zillion miles from US normality. Go figure.

Known as "elg" in Norwegian.

MIL has one. I hate it.

The strip miner's love 'em. Lotsa nickel and rare earths in there. I somehow doubt many Prius owners would like to see when the components for their little pill actually come from.

Oslo is about the same latitude as Anchorage, so be prepared for long days. Make sure you have good sunglasses for Svalbard. The sun will never set while you are there.

If you should find yourself in Stavanger, go visit Statoil ASA and ask the company investor relations folk some questions.

  • When should investors expect the company's reserve replacement performance to improve?
  • When are the company's finding costs going to improve?
  • Is Statoil, ASA the world's most poorly managed large energy company?
  • Is there any hope that the government will reduce the current extortionate corporate tax rate?
  • Is there any hope that current featherbedding managers will be replaced by competent managers?
  • Why doesn't Norway sell its shares to someone who will properly oversee the company's performance?

TIA

Agreed. It's not the solution people like to think.

Nodnod. This is the kind of stuff it's easy to forget.

I'm not a huge black metal fan....but it sure was interesting checking out the local music scene there.
Pretty sure my moshing days are over...

Since you are headed to the arctic, a visit to the Fram Museum in Oslo would be appropriate.

I'm sure it's on Lady P's list. Unfortunately we won't have time to spend in Oslo until we're on the way home.

I think I'm overpacked. I may go take it all out and rethink a few things.
