North to the Future

"Oh, what a fine cap hanging on a broken limb of a tree that will never grow to be great along the trail pioneered back to an unrecorded time. The late afternoon snow fell quietly as if not to disturb those who wished the place to be of peace and dignity. I have known such places, and I have known more than several who preferred places of quiet. I suppose the cap will not be lost for long as the owner will probably reach for it as he or she bumps along the trail on a mountain bike or, maybe zoom past in shoes made for trails. The place is no longer as it was a short time ago when the dead spruce were cut and hacked to allow for the healthy to grow. I suppose it could because of the beetle infestation that has crept throughout the forests of south central. While the forests are changing, it is nice to see that the old time spirit of those who came before is alive and well hanging on a tree limb. There's an old tradition, if you find something, pick it up and leave it near where you found it. It is not lost. The person who needs it, needs to find it."
