Everyone that is a property owner here needs to keep eye out on North Dakota
There going to vote Tuesday to end property taxes there.
Hope it passes there.

??

How are they going to raise revenue? Sales Tax? I always figured a national sales tax was fair if you dont want to support govt do not buy anything, It is a good way to eliminate the cash economy I dont care if you sell dope but when you buy ammo the money will come in as taxes

Thats really strange.
I wonder how they will pay for the stuff they used to pay for with property taxes..or will they just not plow roads and such any more.

Surplus they have from oil and gas drilling
If there's a surplus that's saying taxes are to high to start with.

Homestead should never be taxed.

Commercial property, yes.

But heres the problem: Almost every city gives mega-corps sweet deals on property taxes, and makes it up from Main Street greasy spoons and residents.

Worse! If you locate your florist shop close to McDonalds the city taxes you both the same.

Now! If the city needs to replace your sewer or pave your street it can assess you a share of the cost, and lien your property till its paid. As it is the city gooses your tax any time some idgit pays too much for a house near you.

When did North Dakota become a state of free loaders?

Bigger then needs to be.
There talking about ending property taxes here in Texas to:D

They use them for the schools here, so it's not likely to change. They could use lottery funds, but then the politicians would lose their slush fund.:D

Don't think cutting taxes is free loading more like freedom from big government:D

Free loading is when people expect others to pay for the stuff they accept from the government. I've never been to North Dakota, but I know it's a big state with long distances between places. Who pays for the roads and bridges?

If you want to live in a state where you have to wait for the river to go down, just to get your mail, that's your choice, but don't expect someone else to buy you a bridge.

They have a surplus.
People who don't own property free load right now.
I don't know how there roads are paid for but in Texas roads paid with gas tax and taxes on vehicle registration every year and toll roads.

BRONZE believes that your money is really the gubmints money, you just hold it till they need it.

He worried he might have to go work when he can't free load off the state anymore:D
I can tell he doesn't own any property he would understand why north dakota wants to end property taxes.
It's not spread the wealth it's spreading the taxes equally on everyone.

Right now you don't really own property it's a scam don't pay taxes see what happens.
You own your shirt are shoes out right but not property.

 Except that the city isnt required to upkeep services for your shirt and shoes.

The words misspelled in this post: "than," "they're," and "too."

There's a reason I always insist on the difference between living in Texas and being a Texan.

As far as North Dakota goes: they can make their own decisions, but oil revenues aren't an option for every state, something smug rightwing Texans often forget.

Depending on the state property taxes pay for

Public Schools
Roads
Public Parks
Government Costs- upkeep of the building/salaries
Emergency services
The street lights
Public Libraries
Sewer system
Side walks
