Nonsensical Tags

Some Literotica Stories have nonsensical tags. Here are two examples:

I believe these are older (2000-2001) stories. The issue is that these stories will not come up in tag searches... and good stories may be 'lost' to new viewers.

While I fully understand that the author owns the stories, I'm sure an AI could easily replace "one-off" tags with popular ones or something.

Is this something that could be considered? Or would this violate Literotica Author "ownership"?

You think that Literotica should input all of its stories into an LLM, ask it to generate story tags for each story, and override whatever tags the original author did or did not choose for their story?

emotionally fragile
dance of control
hateless hatefuck
abandoned blackmail
ethical failure
articulation
difficulty giving up control (This one actually had someone comment on my use of it and appreciating its use.)


I would be sad if the site dropped them because they weren't used more often.

Older stories without tags were assigned tags by an algorithm when tags were implemented. Some of them are absolutely hilarious. These examples pale next to some of them. There aren't enough of them to amount to a fart in a whirlwind, though. They're not pushing anybody off tag search. Odds are that search is going to start weighing recent activity like some other places on the site are now, and that will further erode any "harm" these ancient stories might cause.

Why on earth would anyone default to "I'm sure an AI could easily..." do anything? Good god. Do we not have brains? Can we not figure things out using those brains? Do we not have the ability to reason, to judge?

No, OP. "AI could not easily" do jack shit, especially on a website whose owners are openly hostile to AI. If you want to change these tags? Come up with an argument why it's necessary, propose it to the owners, and volunteer to help out.

Otherwise, this is a solution in desperate search of a problem, I think. Quite apart from the lack of utility, I'd think twice or even three times about changing a writer's work without their consent.

There's no way those tags in the top post were generated algorithmically off a tagless story.

They're very clearly the mistaken input of humans spamming tags into the tag field without waiting for the UI to prompt them to accept each comma-separated one as a tag. So what they got was one giant comma-separated tag.

I agree. They add . . . color. The site would be more drab without them.

Some tags people put on their stories are ridiculous - nobody would search for them in a million years. The purpose of tags is for prospective readers to find your story, for example if you set a story in Australia then 'Australia' would be the tag to use for readers who want to read Australian stories.

However one problem is variation in tags. For example if you wanted to look for stories set in the 1960s, you would find many different tags like 1960s, 1960's, '60s, 60's, sixties, the sixties, The 1960s or '60s setting', possibly more variations on that. It would be good if tags like this could be standardized but obviously that would be unrealistic.

If an author wants to assign weird tags to their story, for whatever reason, so be it. Personally, I usually look at the most common tags in the category and pick those which apply.

There's choosing distinctive and unhelpful tags, which is everyone's right, and there's the absurd automatic generation for those old stories when tags were first created. It would be nice to have those oldest stories properly tagged and more visible, but I can't see how they'd realistically do it.

The combo of "air daddy" and "bat ass" took me to some very fun places. Sexy bat flying fucking, bat badonkadonk. Then I checked out the story and why it was being used, and... yeah... I like mine a lot, lot, lot better...

I don't think such things are entirely useless or nonsensical. Granted, no-one's going to drool at the thought of sex on pedalos and therefore search for all the stories with pedalos; but for me it's a memory jogger: What was that weird one? There was a scene on a pedalo...

Tags aren't just for locating stories of interest.

When you locate a story of potential interest some other way, a look at the tags can be a preview of the story content and quality.

So the weirder or more nonsensical they are, the greater the effect they can have on your "no thanks, not this one" reflex.
