Years ago I wrote a short story on the origin of religion. It was purely speculative and is based on common sense. It doesn't attack any particular religion but perhaps casts a ray of doubt upon the entire institution. Do you think it would fly here on Lit?

The issue with "common sense" is that everybody thinks it's important but nobody can agree on exactly what it says.

But if it's already written, I guess it doesn't cost much to submit it and see whether Laurel lets it through.

A short story or an essay?

Is there an axe to grind or any one religion targeted? If no and no, then it could get a pass. Not what I'd expect to see on an erotica site, though.

As an essay, it might actually find an audience among readers who struggle with their attraction to erotica conflicting with their religious upbringing or current teachings.

I say, "Give it a shot."

It's a short story about an ancient tribe and how and why they ended up with religion. There is no axe to grind but to express my theories about the origins of organized religion. On the other hand, I don't know if Lit is the place for it. I write porn. I'm not here to offend anyone; calling all religions into question is liable to do so.

I think I'll pass on the whole idea. At least here. Thanks for the input.

You can try it in Non-erotic (it doesn't seem like an essay); that's what the category is there for. It's a minority of stories here for sure, but the readers there are usually okay. Lit will take almost anything you wish to put there, sex or no sex. (Within the existing guidelines.) Otherwise you will have to look for some other site, and it's not worth doing that (probably) for only one story.

It it's not attacking a specific religion and it's purely speculative about pre-history (it would be paganism, I suppose), then the odds are that it will not run into any problems from Laurel.

P.S.: What we write here is porn, erotica, romance, satire - whatever the writer wishes to call it.
