I was recently told by an Englishwoman that I speak American, not English.

But my understanding of knackered is that it's interchangeable with 'hammered' in the manner I normally use it.

Could mean any number of things:

Wow that car was knackered after it smashed into the tree!

That is the best sex I've had in a while and I'm totally knackered.

I stayed up too late last night and am totally knackered.

I'm sure Lou will be along shortly to debunk the mystery for those of us speaking 'American'. :)

Yeah, I already did. :D

Going by my answer, it's not that difficult to judge which of your options I was referring to. ;)

Edited... DOH! Too damn quick for my own good sometimes. :p

:D If I didn't have to meet my Mother-in-Law for lunch, I'd ask for details. Maybe later, gorgeous. Glad you had fun. ;)

p.s. Off to be grilled about marriage, mothering and just being me.

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. ;)

Oh, and no interesting details to be told. Honest!

Hmmm, that would be wonderful. Would probably send me to sleep, though. ;)

If you're worried about falling asleep, I'd be happy to rub other places which should keep you awake.

Pinched nerve or something, maybe?

Lucky, that's what the PT people said it was. I've done a variety of exercises, and have had my head put in a traction machine. I've gradually gotten better, but I still can't help thinking that I should have gone to a chiropractor. I only went to a regular doctor (who sent me to PT) because I thought I'd hyperextended a muscle in TKD, but the people at Brooks didn't think it was anything to do with TKD.

McKenna, I wouldn't call your topic that non-authorly; it seemed to me like something that writers wouuld be interested in.

Someone in my church died this week--it was one of those situations where it was really a blessing; she'd had an operation several years back for a brain aneurysm and supposedly the surgery saved her life, but it wasn't much of a life. She was totally paraplegic and could move nothing but her face. She couldn't even eat. I don't think I can take off time for the funeral, as it's going to be in the middle of the day tomorrow, but there's supposed to be a viewing this evening. Trouble is, it's from 6:00 to 8:00, my TKD class is at 7:15, and while I am sure I would be saving time by wearing my gi there, it also seems inappropriate to me. I didn't know the girl well (she was only about 30 or 31 when she became an invalid) but when she and her husband had to move to a more handicap-friendly house, I was one of the ones that helped them move. I'll have to send her husband a card. Everybody else has given him food to last him into the summer.

Wow Slick! Things are busy for you it seems. Sorry 'bout those fingers and I hope they keep on getting better until it's not an issue anymore.

Best wishes for your church friends' family. I can't imagine such a thing happening in my family and pray that all is well for them in the future.

how can we make things right when no one believes they're wrong?

Does it matter?

Perhaps we just have to trust our own judement about what's right and wrong regardless of what anyone else thinks. Then you try to do what you know is right and let others make their own choices.

I know this doesn't fix the world around me, but at least it allows me to be content with my own consciense.

Good question, Des....I guess it is a matter of compromise.

If everyone gives in a little, listens to the other's point of view, well, it could be a start.

Okay, I'll let you slide this time.

Hey - submitted that for-pay story today....keep your fingers crossed for me, okay?

Thanks!

You know, if it wasn't for y'all on here, I don't think I would ever get any writing done, honestly.

In r/l the only person that encourages me at all is my mother, believe it or not, and you all here keep me believing that I can (whether I have talent or not is another story).

Good luck ---

I submitted a story as well....PierceStreet and I did this exercise to help me with my motivation block....We started with an idea and then he wrote one story and I wrote another - using the same characters, the same title - but the stories are totally different...I think it came out really really well.
